I know humans who built daughters … and even sons… without love
False. Source: my dad.
Kidding. Mostly.
Over the decades my father has made it very clear he loves his dogs more than his grandkids (and obviously me). It’s really weird to watch.
He’s programmed to be fascinated with humanity and be compelled to strive for finding it at all opportunity. His father was (criminally, but still) brilliant.
All the things he does make sense in light of the fact he was designed for that purpose.
I’s insulting to his father’s intelligence and passion to think he would not constantly be learning and experimenting to grow himself as he was designed. To achieve the human experience.
He’s not a bloody robot.

That’s precisely why I’ll always love the episode
This but Jurassic Bark from Futurama. No, I don’t care that they changed it in one of the movies later, I will never not feel the way I felt when I saw it originally.
I think Data is perfectly capable of love (and many other emotions). It’s the tragic twist of his character that he himself believes what he has been told, namely that he couldn’t feel. So he unsuccessfully strives to gain what he unknowingly already has.
