I would probably prefer they add a rep system but I do think the absence of one creates that tension on whether or not the stranger you’re chatting with is about to backstab you or not and what you’re potentially going to do about it.
I think the lack of penalties emboldens the assholes. Besides, the type of person that griefs (forces) others into losing their time and loot will better understand immediacy in response.
It’ll also be keeping with the theme of the game to have others seek them out for great rewards.
If that’s not your cup of tea, how about a compromise? I propose your rep aggressively determines how quickly and easily Arc find you as soon as you launch.
Got a habit of downing new players for fun? Enjoy this tenacious Rocketeer that targets only you then fucks off and leaves all other players alone.

I play for the PvE, I don’t care about PvP, the only time I will willingly do it is because I’m forced to for one of those “feats”.
Even then you can just magdump someone when the elevator/train/vent closes, the worst thing that happens is that the victim’s shield gets damaged a lil’ bit
So what makes people griefers? The only thing making me mad are exit campers. That’s a pretty degenerate play style but still fine for me since it adds a lot of spice to the extraction. Otherwise there would be way less tension when you’re making it to an exit with a full backpack. At least as long as it happens as rarely as it happens to me. People who shoot on sight are kinda boring but absolutely fine. However in my 80 hours I never got “hard ratted” by somebody teaming up or playing friendly, just to shoot me in the back the second we’re near the extraction or I let my guard down. This would make me pretty mad tbh and I get why people would want this to be punishable. I’m full time friendly myself as long as you talk or emote and you’re not trying to sneak up on me or behave too sus. I’m honestly wondering why people are so chill in arc in the first place. PvP and PvE are pretty mid at best and I personally think without the other this game would suck, which is why they added PvP in the first place, as far as I know.
Your experience is not the norm. Try teaming up with anyone else and see if your experience is the same as in solo.
Griefers is subjective but my definition is “anyone that pisses me off.” The reason doesn’t matter. I should be able to choose to put a bounty on someone.
EDIT: A bounty system doesn’t make it any less “spicy” for you. It just makes it more “spicy” for me when I want revenge. I hear you like it spicy so let’s dial up the spicy.

I’m totally with you. I would love to have a reasonable bounty system. That wouldn’t make it any less spicy. It would be slightly less spicy if extraction camping would be removed for good. That person getting away with ratting me at the exit makes the other 97% of my games more thrilling imo.

A dude sitting at an exit point waiting to kill you and steal your shit is not griefing. That is more or less the intended gameplay of this entire fucking genre.
Your own team killing you and stealing your shit would be, and that’s easily fixed by simply not allowing friendly fire.

Sorry I typed this quickly without properly explaining my thoughts: the original post was written by chatgpt, I agree with the general idea, but I heavily frown upon this fact (its happening a lot more on the Arc Raiders discord as well)
People can and should write their own ideas instead of relying on LLMs, because those will always tend to homogenise ideas, oftentimes getting details wrong.
That and I’ve started to really dislike the writing style of chatgpt, to the point where it’s painful to read.
So yeah, it’s more of a shoot the messenger type of rant, my apologies haha
I’m the most against people using ChatGPT for professional writing but in my defense I skimmed most of the article and agreed with the points contained within it.
What was it that you found so obvious it was painful? Double hyphens, perhaps? I’ve been using those for decades and so have many prominent writers.

Yeah double hyphens are the most obvious sign, it’s also the flow of some sentences, chatgpt tends to often do variations “its not x it’s y”, and try to narrate things, not sure how to describe it
