        No, no no no. You cannot make it shut the fuck up. Trying to is resisting, fighting, being in conflict with the mind, and then you are not at peace.

        Meditation is allowing the thoughts to come and go, and choosing not to interact with them. When you find yourself following a thought, no matter how far, just acknowledge it and then return to center. Healthy meditation is allowing the thoughts to flow around you like water, without getting wet.

        It is easy to practice, but hard to master. Very fulfilling of you do, though.
