Some industrial is prone to create this experience. Sometimes a bit crushed bass can make one wonder if their speaker is blown.
A few times in the real world I have been listening to a song where there were sirens going off in the distance. And when I paused the music I heard, sirens going off in the distance. And I thought, “cool, they are listening to the same song.”, so I turned the music back on.

Industrial music in an industrial facility can be a real pain. Is that something going thud every cycle? No, it’s someone’s speaker.
When the music in the video game is just random creepy sounds and you can’t tell if its the music, a sound in the game, or a sound IRL.
