There’s no other way of looking at this: this was as potent of a first day move as one could make to push things clearly in the direction of solidifying socialism.

Above all else people can’t afford rent. And, the fucking glaringly brazen way that landlords are able to get away with utterly leaving apartments in disrepair yet still asking for rent checks is the epitome of capitalist decay. And he’s shining a light on both here.

That Zohran knows he has a mega platform now and chose to go to a black neighborhood in Brooklyn, with tv news cameras following his every move, is a stroke of genius.

I don’t know how all this is going to pan out. There will be and I’m sure now is underway all kinds of hellacious subterfuge and sabotage to sink his agenda.

But if he can win the hearts and minds of working people, who have been fucked over in election after election by the shitty fake democrats that win easily here, and get them to see themselves in solidarity with a socialist movement, we could really be seeing the beginnings of building a serious socialist movement to dislodge the feckless democrats.

It can not be a phot opp. I don’t think it will be.

Hope he sticks to this and shuts the fuck up about foreign policy.

Better yet, stick to this AND take anti-imperialist line on foreign policy. But failing that just shut the fuck up about it.

    Because this is good.

Wake me up when he passes legislation that permits nationalizing slumlord rentals if the landlords fail to adhere to the contracts and laws that they are bound to

Feels like that’s where he’s going with it to be honest. Publicise the worst buildings in the city, publicise their auction to the worst landlords in the city, publicise their failure to improve despite the tenants office continuing to crackdown and demand improvements.

Build up the case against them for complete and total failure. Call the buildings a serious danger, not just to the occupants but to the rest of the city itself.

Forcibly take the buildings at a rate worth the incredible number of problems they have and the immense negligence of the landlords running them. If they don’t want the buildings to be taken then the landlords can be fined for every single one of the thousands of different problems with the building that they are not meeting city codes with.

Build it up properly and the entire city will support it.
