Interesting excerpt:
<Patrick Söderlund/CEO Embark> “So if your preference is to do PvE and have less conflict with players, you’ll get more matched up [with those players]”
<Dean Takahashi/Host> “I did have someone ask me if there is Aggression Based Matchmaking-”
<Patrick Söderlund/CEO Embark> “-And that’s exactly what it is.”
They clearly have aggression based matchmaking, but it’s also clearly still insufficient if you play both solos and trios and want a different experience in both.
If I run exclusively solos I want and eventually receive exclusively peaceful lobbies. Over Christmas break I died 2-3 times to players over what must have been 50+ hours of game time. When my friends got back on and we started doing trios, where we want to be aggressive because the chance of betrayal is too painful and high, my aggression score clearly went back up to high. I can’t play peaceful solos if I’m playing aggressive trios which means I don’t play solo, and therefore play less.
I hope they address this soon.
I get that you are saying but :
- You can play a few games of trio free loadout until things call down. Sure, you will have to endure pretty much litteraly destroy you and your team… But you should get quite quickly to friendlier lobbies.
In any case IMO you can change from aggro to friendly lobby in about 4 raids so it’s not like a really big issue.
Basically if I do PvP in a session with friends, I will do a few pacifist free loadouts in solo beforehand and that seems to be enough.
The way I see it, it accounts for the damage you do to Arc and other players yo push the matchmaker one way or another.
Sure, but changing to my preferred way of playing shouldn’t take 4 runs it should take 0 because the pattern is perfect. Solo peaceful, trio aggro. This is something they can and should fix, so I don’t have to waste my time switching every day. Without this, I play on weekends which is fine but detrimental in the long run I think.
I disagree.
Solo players should be able to play PvP if they wish to do so.
That system naturally match PvP vs PvP and PvE vs PvE.
It lets anyone play any mode the way they want to*.
*: assuming you are patient enough for the matchmaker to adjust
You’re not reading what I’m writing I don’t think. I never said solo players should be unable to play PvP, I said the aggression based algorithm should differentiate based on party size. I shouldn’t have 1 score, I should have 3 (solo, duo, trio).
That allows anyone to play how they like, but cuts the unintelligent sorting down to behavioral changes instead of behavioral changes AND party size changes.
OK, i agree that party size should count on the decision but i also understand that this is suppose to evaluate the aggressiveness of a player. Since you play very differently solo and trio you probably assume everybody does.
There is some truth IMO on saying that many aggressive players will be just the same irrelevant of party size. The more chill solo is something that appeared organically because people wanted at least one safe space. But it’s not really a rule or anything official. I personally wish I could play trios in a more peaceful manner so I agree the change you suggest might help. But also people that are aggressive will often be on any modes anyway. I find hard to believe the extract campers in trios would suddenly be any different when they play solo…
Also in trios the matchmaking has to assess the aggressiveness of three players and find and adequate lobby with other similarly aggressive teams. So it’s not as simple as having three hidden MMR aggressiveness because I think people tend to naturally be more aggressive in groups. So a group of mildly aggressive players can be a very aggressive group when they free loadout on stella montis ;)
