Explanation: The Nazis, as they are better known, were formally the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP). Despite this, their claims to be socialist was never very strong - nor a workers’ party, for that matter, as their support came primarily from the middle class. For that matter, in their most famous period after they took power, they purged the more-left-wing (insofar as such a leaning is possible within the bizarre Nazi worldview) faction, and openly aligned themselves with capitalist magnates, who were getting nervous about the left-wing talk in some corners of this “socialist” party, and were greatly relieved by Hitler’s reconciliation with big business and privatization.

Can you imagine if they did what they did AND had socialist policies? That would look fucking ridiculous from an outside perspective

I mean, you only really have to imagine Stalin and add an extra amount of racial hate and scapegoating - “capitalist Jews” is a classic far right idea that’s easy to transfer to far-left ideologies. The USSR was already pretty nationalist and imperialist anyway and strongly promoted Russian language and culture in the areas it conquered, and opposed religion. Bad time to be Jewish, especially after WW2, though the official goal was assimilation rather than extermination.

“On the night of 18 January, a group of approximately 40 strikers, all members of the strikers’ Putfontein Commando, overpowered and disarmed 2 police officers guarding a mine’s pump station. The strikers attempted to gain the loyalty of the 2 policemen, but when this failed, the strikers profusely apologized and unconditionally released the police officers” This was unexpected. Probably cause the policemen were white

Following a drop in the global price of gold from 130 shillings (£6 10s) per fine troy ounce in 1919 to 95s/oz (£4 15s) in December 1921, the mining companies owned by the Randlords tried to cut their operating costs by decreasing wages, and by promoting black mine workers – who were paid lower wages – to skilled and supervisory positions.[2] The promotion of non-white workers to these positions was seen by the striking white workers as a greater issue than the issue of decreased wages.[1]: 18

          Holy shit.
