Right-wing American journalist Tucker Carlson and his staff were reportedly detained in Israel on Wednesday following an interview with an American official.
Carlson is fine and exited Israel. It’s totally normal to be detained and interrogated upon departure from Israel. I’m not saying it’s right or that Israel is cool. I’m saying this story is a nothing-burger and basically free press for Carlson’s upcoming interview with Huckabee.
"Men who identified themselves as airport security took our passports, hauled our executive producer into a side room and then demanded to know what we spoke to Ambassador Huckabee about”
This seems decidedly abnormal…I would have thought private discussions between a US citizen and the US ambassador - likely conducted on US soil (embassy) in Israel - would be confidential and he should tell them they have no right to the content of their discussions and frankly they can suck his nuts from the back.
Israel has a “better safe than sorry” security mentality. Pro Israel and Pro Palestine people both will acknowledge their security is intense at the airport.
I was there years ago for a conference. I didn’t do anything weird and still, just after the metal detector, officials took my passport and interviewed me. I wasn’t a very seasoned traveller at that point, so it felt a bit scary.
Mainstream media has destroyed the meaning of the word “journalist”. Tucker asks more critical questions about Israel than most pretend journalists these days.
The story is not a nothing-burger. Just because Israel has normalized harassing journalists it does not get to be a “normal occurrence”. Also they stopped a conservative journalist for criticism of Israel it is certainly not a random event.
At this point y’all aren’t disagreeing about what happened or if it was good/bad, just about how terms like “normal” and “nothing burger” should be used.
I basically ignore all news that doesn’t have substantive outcomes and consequences, the news is just a massive speculation market driven by grifters, political scammers and online betting. If you read anything that seems to appeal to your feelings, that’s a huge red-flag that you’re being gamed. I wish everyone knew this.

It’s not a nothing-burger
You forgot to include the next sentence.
How much trust do you put in Tucker Carlson’s word?
…or the Daily Mail?
If both have negative trust, does that multiply to trustworthy?
two wrongs equal far right
More than I put in Israel’s
While that may be, it still doesn’t make him trustworthy.

Cute that you assume Israel gives a fuck about international law or norms.
Is this meant to sound condescending towards me? Or am I misreading it?
that is not uncommon in airports in israel. especially for someone that was filming in israel.
I’m not so sure I agree with this.

Israel has a “harass and intimidate” people mentality you mean
that’s all security theater has ever been

I am a seasoned traveller and that would scare me.
I’m not and i wouldn’t set a foot in that “country” unless the CIA or Mossad kidnapped me.
This is not normal whatsoever. It is intimidation of journalists criticizing Israel.
LOL, ‘journalist’.
Still not worse than ‘israel’

If it’s how they operate, it’s normal for their country, by definition.
They’re straight up saying it’s not good.

We are disagreeing whether the story is noteworthy or something that should be considered “normal”.
Words have meaning which is why these semantical discussions are important.
