Google is an incredibly shitty company.
Google running the software on the head units would still be a better situation than what the manufacturers currently do. My 2019 default head unit is already end of life / completely lost software support.
so car manufacturers can use it, then slowly put all their important infrastructure behind a walled garden just like android on mobile. we’ve seen this playbook before lol

Well damn. I guess it just doesn’t feel very computery, but maybe what I’m seeing there isn’t very close to being direct outputs of sensors.
I guess google needs the community to do the heavy lifting of developing this for them. Then, when it’s ready enough, they’ll pull the rug off. Don’t believe me? Look into the current state of Google’s Android.
