I wrote this after having a major PTSD episode. I had a very dark, hidden, and unprocessed emotion that burst out of my soul and almost threw my whole life into disarray.

This trauma and the emotions that followed were crammed inside since as long as I could remember.

this is also a little tribute to Dream Theater as a thank you to their thoughtful music when it comes to neurodivergent people such as myself.

“The Mirror”

The Mirror keeps telling me lies
You lost your heart
And your withering mind
Forever stuck in a spiral
Say one thing
Avoid the other

The reflection holds truth
But it cannot hold the world around me
Spinning around me
I keep looking
And making it spin with me
I fail to look around
Because I cannot let go

It’s easier to walk away
After I close my eyes
I take a peak to keep straight
If I walk crooked
I might run into you

When I wake, I turn right around
I open my eyes, and the Mirror is still there
I walk to my demise, because I can’t help stay there

Look at anything but the problem
Addicted to reflections, delusions
Unsafe realities and thoughtful wishes
All crammed inside a Mirror

Eyes now see me, and I want to walk away
But I’m wide awake, and the sun wants to shine
Physical over drive, a heart beat came alive
Eyes of the Mirror force me, and I want to walk away
But I need to stare

Lock eyes with my own
Accept what we see
Our sparkling eyes, full of love and hope
The reflection beyond, absent of meaning
And now we can both walk away
After looking each other in the eye
And now all I can do is wait

Because I now know it’s easier to look the problem in the eyes
But I still struggle to fight the urge to walk away as they close
