I just found a Luna moth caterpillar the other day! Some wind must have knocked it out of the branches above.

It’s a Luna Moth 😍
PS: apparently male https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luna_moth
It’s a female. Here’s a male I found in 23. The antenna are much wider.

I love Luna moths. Fun fact, they don’t have any mouthparts or a digestive system. They do not eat during their adult phase. They usually live for just one week.
Username checks out
Was she hanging around in the same spot for hours? Fairly sure it’s female anyway, based on the small size of the antenna.
Y and Y for sure
I love luna moths
However, as I was scrolling, my brain made me think “why is there a picture of a moth on a word history community?”
Because i love this kind of stupid joke. Here is the etymology of entomology
“the branch of zoology which treats of insects,” 1764, from French entomologie (1764), coined from -logie “study of” (see -logy) + Greek entomon “insect,” neuter of entomos “cut in pieces, cut up,” in this case “having a notch or cut (at the waist),” from en “in” (see en- (2)) + temnein “to cut” (from PIE root *tem- “to cut”).
Honestly I’d be happy with world history that involved more of this and less of (gestures at everything else)
Classic

Normally I don’t like moths but damn, that’s quite a lovely looking moth you snapped📸✨
'Lil fairy-ass insect

Oh man! I finally saw one in person for the first time the other morning.
