Hey y’all what’s a good laptop for college use?
My old uni laptop was a Lenovo ThinkPad running a Windows/Linux dual boot. If i were to go to university again today i would probably go with a Lenovo again but ditch Windows altogether. You don’t need Windows for university work, and especially if you are in a scientific field like i was everyone is using Linux anyway. Lenovo has pretty good price-performance ratio and generally does not force manufacturer specific software on you like many others do. I am not very familiar with the new models though, the last time i bought a laptop is over ten years ago. You would have to do some research and decide what criteria you are looking for and what your budget is.
I feel like you missed 4 very specifc words here that go hand in hand with a linuxified thinkpad…

english politics section at probably the biggest bookstore in korea
has anyone read
By Way of Deception: The Making and Unmaking of a Mossad Officer (1990), by Victor Ostrovsky
apparently zionists tried to ban it and couldn’t?
new trans girl i met thats otherwise socially progressive seems to believe in reverse racism (as in anti-white racism) and dubs stalin and mao worse than hitler and says he has the highest kill count due to the famine. is this fixable (i know the answer)
They fixed the genocidal last emperor of China. The limiting factor is how much time and energy you have to work on them. Sometimes you can make good headway with something like “Everything you know about communism you’ve heard from capitalists. That’s like learning about sexuality and gender from an evangelical anti-abortionist trad wife”
there is a tumblr post about puyi i think about every fucking day and im glad u reminde dme. thanks for ur advice. nice to be back on space of people that dont make me feel crazy for thinking fascism is worse than cuba
showering is great
on top of lemmygrad I find a bunch of quotes. where do I find them on github?
All of them are loaded whenever you start the page. You can run this command on the browser console to print them out (but don’t run commands from strangers, please check it):
window.isoData.site_res.taglines.forEach((el) => {console.log(el.content)})I don’t know where else to find the tagslines.
The api. https://lemmygrad.ml/api/v3/site
asking for more advice here:
I think Game of Thrones is a great example as to why I dont get invested in still being worked on media. Like, if better call Saul had a GOT tier ending I think I actually would’ve exploded. It’s why I haven’t started playing Deltarune yet, even if I’m pretty sure it’ll be good.
I mean, at least the people who watched the GOT TV show got an ending. I can’t imagine what it’s like for fans of the books
That’s why I prefer tv shows with only one season, where the entire story line is being completed in one season so later seasons can’t ruin it. And even if the ending does suck, at least you didn’t get invested in the show for years.
Infinity Train taught me this lesson. On top of going of the rails it can also just get canned. No thanks.
I’m still going to read Sword Art Online because I want to have stuff to talk about with my friend, but otherwise, yeah.
This is why I don’t buy Steam games that are still in Early Access.
Early Access is just you paying a company to work as their beta tester. I would call it unpaid labor except it’s even worse because they take money from you. It is the biggest scam in gaming today.
companies would rather release broken, buggy messes or rob their players than pay actual beta testers smh

The first few seasons of GoT were good. I just memory holed the last 2 seasons. I don’t regret the investment even if it was a let down.
Yeah, fuck GOT, they ruined Stannis
“Today is August 4, 2026,” said a second voice from the kitchen ceiling, “in the city of Allendale, California.” It repeated the date three times for memory’s sake. “Today is Mr. Featherstone’s birthday. Today is the anniversary of Tilita’s marriage. Insurance is payable, as are the water, gas, and light bills.”
Somewhere in the walls, relays clicked, memory tapes glided under electric eyes.
Eight-one, tick-tock, eight-one o’clock, off to school, off to work, run, run, eight-one! But no doors slammed, no carpets took the soft tread of rubber heels. It was raining outside. The weather box on the front door sang quietly: “Rain, rain, go away; umbrellas, raincoats for today. …” And the rain tapped on the empty house, echoing.
Outside, the garage chimed and lifted its door to reveal the waiting car. After a long wait the door swung down again.

my favorite part of sci-fi is when all their futuristic technology gets to be so dated. alexa on optical tape and mechanical relays. single-panel garage doors. a “weather box” that’s basically just the early-morning news on tv
Ngl capitalism and business gets me excited with gears turning doing problem solving. Too bad it’s ran by pedophiles and inherently unsustainable. A shame really. Luckily there’s this thing called socialism that allows me to do engineering and not worry about my cousin being taken to a certain island
Visited FC United of Manchester recently. It’s a fan owned club established by angry Man Utd fans who opposed the takeover by a US owner. They had a surprising amount of communist flags hanging around. Some hamsics, Marx banners, Che, pro Palestine. Very cool club.
My dream is to visit socialist football clubs from all over Europe, and they are on my list
Very friendly people. Run by volunteers. I wanted to get a jersey and some guy had to come down to open the fan store just for me. Took me around the grounds as well and gave me a history lesson for free.
For a minute there when I first read this I thought you were saying that the fan owned club was established by a literal angry man lol
The football team?
(I know nothing about football and probably hate it now due to my stupid father so excuse me for my ignorance)
Yup
Oki
Heard army helicopters near my town tonight, probably scooping up water nearby to combat the wildfires. Wild how fast climate change consequences arrived.
same deal in the Midwest USA
What are some good books to read on John Brown?
W.E.B. DuBois’s book titled John Brown!
Alright, the higher-ups at the Wikimedia Foundation are unable to fight backlash from the community.
i have never been inclined to give wikipedia money tbh. extremely astroturfed and controlled website that wins hearts on western internet for its ‘objectivity’ (read: milquetoast, pro-west narrative pervading almost everything, especially the biggest pages) and i disdain it out of hand for that. however i’ve also heard whisperings about the true necessity of the funding they ask for and the union busting mentioned below certainly solidifies the case of them as fucking idiots.
what’s going on? out of the loop
They chose not to voluntarily recognize the union and hired a notorious union busting law firm.
Fuck Wikipedia.

Fuck them to high heaven.
I join a new org, and now I’m realising they see China as imperialist. Festering in my liberalism by not bringing this up to them. Is this a big enough thing to consider not organizing with this group? Its hard for me to do a proper analysis of the org due to disability issues so I am asking for input.
Its a dealbreaker for me, but try poking around other members to see where they’re at, maybe there is someone salvageable.
At this conjuction of time, any org that sees China as imperialist is a joke and has to be considered reactionary.
Depends. I’d think like this:
- Is it a big party, with some marxist and some soc-dems etc.? Try to find like-minded comrades and use it as a way to agitate for and educate about marxist politics (if that is possible within the structure)
- Is it a small cadre party? If so you might want to skip out
- Is it a specific issue group? See if you can work in a positive way about the specific issue and discuss the topic amicably if it shows up. BUT this depens a lot on the situation!
If you are unsure, discuss with a comrade you know, write a journal, and go with your gut feeling, and don’t attach yourself too much to something you are skeptical of.
Not OP but I wanted to ask a question. How could a journal help?
I need to write things down to get stuff out of my head and make decisions. Some others feel the same. But ultimately it’s not about the journal as such, but about finding out how you best process things in your life
I see
Yeah thats a red flag… and not the good kind. Write a speech denouncing them for falling into idealism and imperialist propaganda.
I disagree with this approach.
It is best to just exit.
Leftist groups, at least certain ones, can act very cultish and they may gossip and badmouth you to others to other activist organizations in the area, for example. Also, there are other forms of reprisal.
Honestly, as someone that has dealt with this stuff not too long ago, I would just bow out and not make it into an event if you can.
