Just blocked lemmy.ml from my Lemmy account, and I swear to god it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done on this platform. My homepage feels actually clean now.
For the past few months I’d been seeing a lot of tankie posting and pretty much far-left propaganda on my feed. It got tiring enough that I finally checked my blocked-user list, and realized pretty much everyone I’d blocked was from lemmy.ml. So I just blocked the whole instance instead.
Saying this as someone who considers themselves a leftist: I used to think Lemmy itself was an echo chamber. Turns out lemmy.ml was the problem the entire time. Probably the reason I tolerated it for so long is that I agreed with a lot of what they posted, but like an oversaturated meme, I’d had enough. Browsing the platform was starting to feel way too tiring instead of fun, which defeats the point of being here in the first place.
The breaking point was seeing some dude post a “meme” implying North Korea and China are basically communist utopias and that the West sucks. I mean, the West does suck, but come on - you’re saying North Korea is the ideal the West should strive for? What the hell…

Not sure if it’s my issue, because I don’t really see much pro-China / pro-Russia crap. But I am exhausted by the nonstop extreme left groupthink.
Same goes for any sub - that’s what the Block feature is for, folks. Not to insulate yourself from different points of view but because you’re sick of the same shit over and over.
I wouldn’t need a “clean” front page because I don’t feel threatened by people having different opinions than me. I wish you good luck with your clean front page and clean mind. Hopefully you can find some peace now.
It sure would be swell if people could, at the very least, elevate to a 2d view of politics. Hearing the majority of quadrants II, III, and IV all referred to all “far-left” is confusing at best.
What if social networks had public blocklists that users could opt into for themselves? It could be run like a comm, but slightly different. A user would create the blocklist and ultimately control it. “Posts” to the list could be proposals for additions or removals of users, comms, or instances. Votes on those posts guide the mod(s) on accepting the change or not. Apps could subscribe and update automatically.
I’ve been thinking about this ever since the tesseract debacle.
I want to do this, but they established themselves as the main Lemmy instance before people caught on and it’s too much of Lemmy.

There are a few instances where like 90% of the problematic content and users come from. Blocking them makes the fediverse FAR more enjoyable and pleasant. And reduces the harassment and violent content by 90%
Sane leftists need to shut out the insane ones. Those folks dont’ care about politics in any actionable way. All they care about is feeling superior to everyone else based on their theoretical beliefs and their weird cult of worship they have created with facts don’t matter and alternative history is the truth.
I’m currently debating with myself whether to block sh.itjust.works next, because it seems to be becoming another hotbed of bad actors who are here to be purely negative and hostile to other users and push extremist content.
in fact a lot of folks i blocked on other instances are now posting from that instance under the same username. seems like some folks just keep swapping instances once enough folks have blocked them on another instance for their harassment and horrible posts.
I just scrolled a few pages on that instance and it seems like youre being dramatic.
When everything is extreme and far right, any attempt to common sense will seem far far to the left.

Could someone give some examples of these leftist propaganda posts? I just browse all top day, maybe they get diluted enough for me to overlook these… i’ve seen this argument pass by so many times.
