Everything can be quantified nowadays. And neoliberalism is a cultural force that deconstructs all, even morals such as the sanctity of human life.

See only under capitalism can something this vile, this evil, this biblically wicked actually become a thing. We want to invade and finish off China, but I don’t see China’s communism putting bets on people with cancer stalin-stressed

Thats messed up but it already happens everyday in the pharma stonk market. New pharma companies with drugs in the trial phases will sell for a few dollars a share and people speculate at each level of the phase 1 thru phase 3 trial process. If a pharma stock is selling for $8 a share and it passes phase 3 and gets FDA approval it can jump to $80 share or more overnight. Trumps old nemesis Carl Icahn made billions doing that.

That’s the part that really horrifies me, this is already happening en mass, capitalists already gamble on human lives every single day, it’s now just being opened up as another frontier for the masses to gamble on.

I don’t know how you can even have a healthy society when literally everything is open to be gambled on. It wasn’t so long ago that people recognized that sports gambling had to be outlawed (or at the very least kept seperate from the sports themselves) due to the risk of people altering the game to affect the outcome. Now you can gamble on whether or not america will bomb people or if grandpa will survive his chemo treatment

Fucking Christ it’s just so bleak

You’re not wrong, but there’s just something viscerally evil about allowing online gambling to put bets on people’s lives. Maybe it’s the whole cutting out the middle man thing. Capitalism innovates!
