Out of fucking spite.
You would have to break tls to do that. It’s your system, you could probably do whatever you want, but the browser is checking for certificates and origin requests. It would get complex real quick to do the same checks the browser is doing…
At that point, you are basically building another browser.
Chromium is open source. Why hasn’t someone forked the manifest V2 code?

I did for YouTube only, since I’ve 100% ditched chrome. I use LibreWolf as my default browser but a lot of the lockdowns on it has made YouTube a little glitchy
Yes, they do. It’s the default and convenience is king. If most people were aware enough, we wouldn’t be in the state that we are.
Massive, massive vuln for a lot of utilities which use edge by default but use ad blockers to prevent malware ridden ads from playing on their machines.
