About 2700 hectares of land is currently on fire here in Belgium. Largest Belgian fire ever. Nearby villages are being evacuated.
Hello again
I received the results of the sleep study I did and…🥁… I have sleep apnea.
This is a huge surprise for me. I barely snore and I never wake up gasping for air, at least not enough that I’m consciously aware of it.
The doctor from the sleep lab is going to refer me to trial a cpap machine. If that goes well, I’ll have to pick one up and stay another night at the lab so that they can calibrate it to my breathing.
They’re also referring me to a sleep therapist to help me with falling asleep. They were kind of light on the details, but if there’s a chance it could work, I’m happy to try it.
“a CPAP machine”
Honestly, dawg, take this seriously because the hardest part is going to sleep the first few times to it and acclimating to it
I uhhh
never managed to sleep with mine
Ever
Couldn’t do it for some reason
I wish I had something to help knock me out so I could fall asleep
Honestly, I probably would have needed anasthesia to have made me sleep with that thing on
Also:
Do not just “settle” when it comes to a CPAP machine.
Find the right mask (especially the right mask size so it doesn’t fall off because mine certainly kept falling off despite the Velcro)
Honestly, maybe even get accessories to help make it manageable (I got a cover for my mask when I used one which did somewhat help keep the mask and its implements together, even if I couldn’t fall asleep with a CPAP machine in the end)
If you have facial hair, probably best to shave more often so you’re not always itching (I literally use a rare seven-blade just to get it done quickly lol)
Oh
Consider whether you’re a side sleeper or stomach sleep or even some weird combination (I call them diagonal sleepers lol)
For example, I can’t fucking breathe when I am laying on my back. Holy shit, it hurts, even.
Frankly, even a good mattress might be useful here, not a cheap one (Purple Mattress, generally a hybrid one, might work for you as it does most people, but again, consider your sleep position)
Also also:

Honestly, I should have one by now, that may have made the difference.
It takes 3, maybe 4 hours, for me to go to sleep (so I end up retiring early during the day)
It’s a hassle but at least I am mostly sleeping now (I am so glad I am weaning off caffeine now, holy shit). Oh, and sleeping the full eight hours generally. Before, I sometimes didn’t sleep at all. Ignoring the advice to “just have caffeine no later than 12:00 PM or 2:00 PM” was honestly what I needed (I have been having caffeine very early in the morning, generally around 6:00 AM or even 5:00 AM and it fucking fixes a lot)
Frankly, I may go down to zero or just eventually have one cup of tea and no more during the morning.
Also also also
Blackout curtains. Get 'em. They are a godsend.
Also also also also
Acoustic paneling. Even better in the long run than the blackout curtains.
Ummm…
That’s it tbh
I am Autistic and that’s why I initially did a sleep study
The, erm, sleep specialist did not fill me with confidence lol
I will double-check in Spain.
Thank you for the thoughtful reply! I know nothing about CPAP machines and recognizing that there are different mask sizes and accessories will certainly be helpful. I’m a bit worried that it will make it difficult for me to fall asleep, like you mentioned was your own experience, but I’ll find out soon enough.
I grew up a belly sleeper, but I’ve fortunately adjusted to more of a side sleeper with age. I can breathe fine on my back, but I just don’t find it comfortable enough to fall asleep that way.
I’ll try to keep posting updates as this whole saga develops.
Honestly?
If I indeed didn’t have sleep apnea (which I don’t entirely know but seems to be likely) then that may explain it.
Easier to go to sleep the first few times when you have been tired all along and still have to somewhat deal with the “hangover phase” or sleep deficit afterwards.
But
I also know that I literally can’t breathe sleeping on my back.
Also, I am Autistic and we are more likely to have sleep apnea statistically.
Honestly, I have breathing problems in general.
Loss of breath
I heave too sometimes
Don’t know what exactly is ailing me but I think I am one of those people that have nostril problems regarding congestion and blockage.
My lungs hurt more too.
I have been taking these nasal strips recently and notice an acute difference since they help widen the nostril areas.
This is a huge surprise for me. I barely snore and I never wake up gasping for air, at least not enough that I’m consciously aware of it.
I guess it can be hard to recognize on your own?
At any rate, hope the treatment helps you!
Thank you!
Yeah, the “snoring means you have sleep apnea” thing is overrated.
Frankly, I may do (another) sleep study when I get to Spain.
I think the results I got from my last one were faulty.
Also… I slept only two hours (not even) during the actual study bwahahahahahaha
A fire broke out in eastern Belgium. It is the worst fire in Belgian history.
You try not to doom scroll but you open the news and the apocalypse is there.
I have an anti-doomscrolling app now, ngl (shit works for what it works so that’s good)
Oh my God it is raining
I wish it would rain here. It’s almost 37 degrees Celsius here.
ZOMG
Congratulations!
There’s so much rain in Virginia, I am sick of it.
It’s either humid and hot
Or
Humid, hot, and raining 😞
Normalize calling people from Europe EU-nicks.
Good morning!
How are you all?
What are you all doing right now?
what do you think about the book settlers j Sakai?
It was a good book, but I was disappointed when I read it.
FYI, I wanted to read it since around 2008. I remember looking on Amazon books pages for books to read about history and I saw that book and the blurb entranced me and lighted a fury in me (in a good way) I had always had about white people in general.
However, when I read it for the first time (years later), I was disappointed because it was stuff that I knew about, stuff that even the teachers in my high school and college talked about, and the conclusion of the book was stuff I had already seen or read about before.
Tbf though, the book was written in 1979 and published around 1982, afaik, so it was probably a big deal for those that grew up with it.
I love how MAGA coms and ACP folks hate it though lol
At the end of the day, it is just one book out of many and you can find plenty that discusses the subject matter in more detail and more angles nowadays; i kinda just see it as a litmus test to check if someone is an ACP dumbass or not, idk lol
but yeah, I hated white people growing up
looking back, i disagree with the book more now because the organizations it criticized are ones that I now respect a lot more now, given what I know now, especially since I was on the inside
but eh, it’s a good introduction to big subject matter for some people, if nothing else; not everyone knows the subject and not every high school or college professor will always go into, say, the war in the Philippines during the turn into the twentieth century.
tl;dr I liked it and it was good, just kinda overrated lol
/s I love Mormons. I love that they can be openly transphobic and anti-disabled people to my face and face no consequences.
I’m tired.
We should beat them up
Well
At least they killed Charlie Kirk
It bothers me when serial killers are treated as an “anomaly” when like they really aren’t? They’re the result of the material conditions. But to go to the united states, how can someone tell me a serial killer an anomaly considering like the entire genocidal history of the united states? Somehow a serial killer an anomaly but not u.s soldiers or u.s settlers who committed massacres and genocide? Somehow a serial killers are an anomaly but not the society that enslaved people? Somehow serial killers are an anomaly but not the ceo that kills millions?
Yet somehow serial killers remain this anomalous category? I feel like when people try to pathologize serial killers, it also a cop out to ignore the history and material conditions. If anything, serial killers are “normal”. There’s nothing anomalous about them. And then it becomes odd to say when a serial killer “blended” in that they must of “manipulated” people. Like maybe they’re not good at “manipulating”, rather they’re just good at what society demands of people and fulfills that role well?
Like I dunno, it just again, odd, how serial killers get treated as this different category when like again, you have plenty of normal people who have done heinous things.
A lot of the things you mentioned serve as a way to keep the status quo in place, hence why they are not frowned upon. This extends to animal abuse as well. We abuse and kill trillions of animals on a yearly basis for our palate pleasure, often in horrific ways. But put a thousand pigs with the cognitive ability of a 4 year old in a gas chamber and nobody cares. Put a dog in a gas chamber and you’ll be killed yourself by an angry mob. It’s the hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance to serve the status quo. Animal abuse is highly normal in this society even though we say it is not.
You can also see this in serial killers as well. Serial killers who kill pretty, young white women are highlighted. Serial killers who kill black or trans or gay people or sex workers are often ignored for a very long time or mever found at all. Because this society deems it normal not to care about these victims.
I think the fascination with serial killers in american culture is probably a coping mechanism. The people who are most obsessed with serial killers are probably scratching the itch in their mind screaming “the entire society is built on murder” but they just can’t quite bring it together.
It’s simply the lower classes’ attempt to mimick the dominant structures (i.e. family, ideas) that are natural in class society. Obviously… this fails in regards to some things because they do not have the material or relations needed. So you get fucking serial killers, rapists, corruption, etc. Let alone the conditions too.
There’s nothing anomalous about them. And then it becomes odd to say when a serial killer “blended” in that they must of “manipulated” people. Like maybe they’re not good at “manipulating”, rather they’re just good at what society demands of people and fulfills that role well?
I agree. The manipulation capability of serial killers gets dramatically overrated/mythologized. It’s more that they take advantage of obvious vulnerabilities and power imbalances in a pathologically anti-social system that barely deserves to be called a society. And their lack of empathy combined with murderous desires (which is far more easily formed/nurtured within such a violent system) makes it very easy for them to decide that taking advantage of these things is a good plan. Some of them are the ones in uniform.
Hell, I recall a story of one serial killer case that a journalist managed to solve like decades(? not certain of the timeline offhand) later and it turned out they had been a cop.
Reading that Luigi Mangione spend years in pain without help from his insurance but got a reply within an hour after he posed as an investor is wild
A farmer was on the news. He was showing his onion harvest. It was half of his entire warehouse which is usually full. He voiced his support for the farmers protests today. He said there is no problem and that nature has been better than ever. Seconds later he was complaining about drought.
My guy, look around. Please. Wake up.
Liquidate the kulaks
I made a thing:
hey y’all I’m in the mood for a spooky video game essay does anyone got me covered?
The narration is relaxed but the game itself is creepy. I’ve fallen asleep to this one many times by now.
Very cool!
Oooooo
I want moar
That guy’s channel is quality over quantity so check out his other uploads if you liked this one because they’re all really good. But it takes him months to make new videos so in case you exhaust the backlog, here’s one from different channel that I like.

I just started playing the Deadspace remake. There’s a few little changes to the original that I am not a fan of(they give you a rifle near the beginning that ruins the “Im a space engineer with scifi construction tools fighting mutant zombies in space” vibe) but the jump scares are still there.
I loved Dead Space growing up.
Goddamn, they could have done the whole trilogy and then made Dead Space 4 omg…
I’ve been thinking about playing more horror games to improve my anxiety
Meditation would probably get better results but it isn’t as fun.
I know what you are trying to do
But unless you know how to process your fear and methods to be resilient to it
It may not work
Also, you kinda need to learn how to be brave
