Hi all,

I recently signed up for a wait list for voice training, and while I’m looking forward to it, I’m also admittedly dreading it. I’m looking forward to my voice being more feminine, but my biggest worry is my voice not passing, or being clocked as trans due to having a new voice that hasn’t yet been fully developed.

I know things are going to be a process, and inevitably I’m going to have to deal with that weird stage with my voice until I get it to where I want it to be, but something I’ve been having trouble with is finding voices that truly pass.

I’m willing to put in the effort to have the voice I wish to have, but having that assurance that I can pass with it with enough effort would really boost my hopes and confidence.

Which trans voices out there are ones that pass really well? Which ones would a person never have a second thought if they heard it for the first time?

    I’d put Abigail Thorn on the list. She’s a professional actress, though. So it’s a high bar.

    But she’s also a podcaster / YouTuber with a lengthy catalog. So you can really track the progress.

    Vice versa, out of curiosity: what cis gals have really deep, fairly mascy voices?

    I’m thinking of Shohreh Aghdashloo, lots of people feel her voice is fem but for me it feels mascy due to the crackling and depth.

    Penny from Snapcube on YouTube is pretty wild. She does different voices for different characters and whenever she does a masculine voice she sounds like a totally different person, I thought there were multiple people doing the voices but nope she just has a cracked fuckin femme voice and masc voice

      omg yes, hearing Penny Snapcube switch effortlessly between girl voice and the most perfect impression of Sonic the Hedgehog i’ve ever heard is what inspired me to add J.K. Simmons’ voice to my voice training routine

      my girl voice still needs a lot of work but at least i can do the Portal 2 lemon rant really well now

    the first person that comes to mind is Lily Alexandre (youtuber), i didn’t even consider that she might be trans until she said it explicitly halfway through an hour-long video essay

    There’s a youtuber named Sofia Love who made makeup tutorials years ago and I love her voice. She hasn’t put out a video in years though. The girls from the Doll Deranged podcast are also a good example of how trans voices don’t need to be hyper feminized to still be feminine and passing and beautiful.

    My breakthrough came when I stopped overanalyzing every little mannerism and getting overwhelmed at the thought of needing to relearn how to pronounce every word in my vocabulary. Until that point, I had thought that I needed to learn how to act feminine and that induced a lot of imposter syndrome. I then realized that the only acting I was doing was pre-transition when I presenting masculine because I am just a naturally feminine person. Once I realized that, I kind of just let myself express how I naturally would and its mostly all fallen into place. Hopefully that makes sense. Its 3 am and I can’t sleep.
