Meanwhile, apparently, so many ineffably marvelous Artists responded at X/Twitter suggesting hardware and funding to cover it, including People at:
- CD Project Red, Alienware, Playtonic, Bandai Namco, Running With Scissors…I smell a lawsuit, and an easy win!
So you’ve let your single laptop unattended “over night” in a gigantic mess hall and then wonder that it was stolen?
You know that the main advantage of a laptop is that it’s portable right? So how about taking it back with you to your hotel or locking/hiding it somewhere?
I bet $5 that the laptop was sitting in the open plain while you left 1h early or came 1h late and someone just walked through and was like: Cool laptop.
Ryan Laley was one such attendee, with a booth in the “Business” area of the show, which promises 24/7 security such that it’s a place where items can be left securely. Except it is being reported that on the morning of August 28, multiple developers entered to find that their equipment had been stolen overnight.
So they had some promise of security and that fell through, which sounds like a slam dunk lawsuit.
I’m more surprised by the mention of a few devs who lost their laptops which contained the only copy of their work… Is version control not a thing anymore?
Have you ever been to Gamesco? You know how big the halls are? You know how many people are there? Do you expect a security guard every 10 meters? It’s physically impossible to guarantee that no criminal stuff will happen there.
Also to quote Gamescom:
Individual stand security can be booked separately, and exhibitors are advised to insure equipment against theft. This is noted in the terms and conditions of participation and the technical guidelines.
