When I create an event (with a notification) to a shared Family calendar, my spouse does not get notifications for these events. This is a significant deficiency. Is there a setting to correct this or is it a missing feature all together?

Afaik, this is by design. Everybody who accepta the shared calendar can/is supposed to set their own notification defaults.

I hope it’s supposed to work that way.
I don’t care who you are, I don’t want you creating notifications on my phone. I’m very capable of doing that on my own. It’s notification enough when I get the message I’ve been added

Yeah I remember years ago spam events appearing on my Google Calendar like WTF. It was because they emailed me a calendar invite 😡

I don’t think there’s a notification that they’ve been added. So how would they know what to add a notification to?

You have to accept the invitation to an event.

Unless you’re just sharing a calendar and adding an event without inviting the other participants?

Sharing a calendar doesn’t automatically mean everyone it’s shared with needs to be there. It could just be shared so others know what you have going on and where you’ll be. It doesn’t mean they need to be there also.
