I can’t imagine what it’s like watching this as a person of color. I couldn’t even get to the end because it was so infuriating. There are still people out there that say the cops treat everyone the same and fairly.

They need to be called out and shamed. We need to start having standards as a society.

I’m not doing this right now.

You think this is still optional. Fuck cops generally, but as soon as they’re engaged, you’re out of options until court. This guy was pretty patient.

So? Maybe he doesn’t behave like this towards black men, maybe he does. We can’t tell.

What we can tell is that in this exact instance, this specific cop, was really patient. What I know about training dogs and kids is that positive affirmation works wonders. So can we just for once drop the ACAB attitude and praise this cop? Who knows, maybe getting praised will feel nice, and make the cop want it to happen again.

What an utter waste of public services.

This is a textbook argument for just sticking this type of bonehead in the stocks overnight. Imagine the current supply of lettuces available to be launched at them!

My wife is addicted to this type of video. I think most of them are skits that people act in to make a point. And they stretch it out longer than it has to be. Woman is trespassing, give her a set time (say, 60 seconds) to vacate the property. If she does so, take her information so the restaurant can bill her. She doesn’t pay, they sue her in small claims court and win, plus she pays legal fees. So “buy now pay later” with more steps. She doesn’t, it’s criminal trespass and they’re in the right to sit her in a jail overnight. And the restaurant still sends her a bill for the meal. Not rocket science. Not a cop, not a lawyer. Certainly not a rocket scientist.

YouTube has tons of bodycam footage from arrests etc. I’ll warn you it’s not good for mental health though.

My argument is we have a social agreement as a society, you see the establishment, you see the prices, you agree to dine at the restaurant and pay for your food. It’s not a buy now pay later setup, no sending her a bill.

An exception can be made if she came forward and was like “I fucked up”, can I come in an hour or tomorrow and pay my bill.

But her entitled ass acted like a child, then got racist and wasted so much time and energy. No sale. Pay your shit and leave, or go to jail for theft of services. Complete waste of oxygen. I’ve seen children and pets act better than this bullshittery.

I go out of my way to not inconvenience others, then people like this exist and make me want to kill them for being utter ass holes. Zero sympathy from me.

And I hate cops, so that tells you something.

fully agree. i tend to be a lot harder on people who do things intentionally, even basic shit. littering, damaging property. intent matters, but yes, fuck everyone who makes someone else’s life or job harder for “funsies”. die in a fire. you get like one chance to clean up your act or you’re done. no sympathy for this type of behavior without some sort of medical diagnosis that shows a negative disorder.

I don’t think this was stretched out at all, he has her outside the building in cuffs within 2 minutes of engaging her. When he was getting a statement from the restaurant, they said “if she had just left when we asked her to, we wouldn’t have even cared about the bill.” But now she gets to sit in jail for theft, trespass, and resisting arrest.

and she said she’d pay but needed to use restroom first

Yeah that’s not how that works. She was given many opportunities to pay. Saying you’re going to pay means nothing when you’ve demonstrated repeatedly that you’re not going to pay, especially when you were given an ultimatum by the officer to pay or be arrested

They never told her explicitly she was trespassed and just told her she can either pay the bill and leave

If somebody asks you to leave their private property and you stay, that is trespassing. I’m not aware of the need to use the word “tresspass”. Not a lawyer.

Someone asks you to leave and says they’re calling the cops? Staying is a game of chicken you’re going to lose.

This police officer very clearly gave her the opportunity to leave, however if she left without paying the bill, he planned to arrest her for theft of services. When the restaurant owner stated he wanted to press charges (which I think includes an assault that happened prior to this video), the officer was obligated to make the arrest

fuckin hate auditors. it’s such a cringy subset of influencers. they’re just as bad as sovereign citizens.

much prefer lawyer reviews of bodycam footage or just raw bodycam footage. it’s a great way to learn and identify how interactions with American police are trained to go and what to expect.

She doesn’t pay, they sue her in small claims court

That’s an enormous hassle, practically speaking.

One of the reasons the Australian “What is my crime, officer?!” guy got away for so long. The crimes are so petty that they aren’t worth the effort to pursue.
