They should be allowed to keep their fish
I’m more interested to see if their government will keep polling the issue until they get the answer they want.
Sorry, we’re talking Iceland not Ireland.
Seriously, it’d be better for everyone if there was a solid majority for it, rather than a thin margin. And they obviously have concerns. So either we address those concerns to add a new member or they re-evaluate. I don’t think either are ideal.
I also think that for something as significant as joining (or leaving) that a majorty of at least 60% should be the trigger, not 50.1% or whatever. But that’s not how democracy works either.
What was the question?
I wish the reason was: you have a genocide problem. Sort that shit out and come back to us.
That would have been great.
Genocide?
Thanks for that. Admittedly I’m not an expert on the situation at all.
Do you reckon that was one of the main reasons it didn’t pass? From what I saw there were more local issues like fishing rights as one for example.
No, I think you’re right. The reason it didn’t pass had nothing to do with that. I’m just saying that I wish the EU got a moral critique instead of an economic one for a change.
Yeah I agree with that too.
Like I said I’m mostly ignorant to a lot of the nuance around the entire mess, but it seems like Israel has been playing a very long game. Or a few simultaneously.
Kind of níl, níl gonna lie to you, really…
