The first point : Design is an ads itself. its aim is not only geared to functionalities, ease of use but also to attract people eye and make them eager to buy it or share.

I didn’t think I was being abrasive but if you feel I was I apologise. I agree I was a bit sarky, I am a direct person and that comes across as rude at times.
I love Art, and I love Design. But honestly if you feel a badly done SMEG air fryer advert is either art or design; then this is clearly not the place for me.

It was about the tone.
Also, but that’s not your fault, it may hurt fellings of long term contributors because that’s not an easy task, we spent several hour on finding content and sharing them while handling the moderation part. We are a very small community on the threadiverse, so we endorse several role.
And there is little reward at what we do.
So when a new user react negatively, most of us are sensitive but that’s not an excuse for us to go overboard against users.

I appreciate your moderation. And I appreciate all users who contribute.
But you have to question if this is an ad or if its content. Content will bring people in. An ad is divisive, and may be called out…as I have. Kidding yourself it’s not just harms credibility of the community. Then shouting me down for calling it out just further makes me not want to be here. Do you need introspection on what passes in the community? and how you treat those that question that? well that’s your communities conversation.
I get that its frustrating and you consider me being negative. I just that like that the fediverse is a escape from the rest of the internet littered with someone trying to sell me something, I am always happy to see some graphic design, A nice building, I something that’s considered, beautiful, I personally enjoy clever use of design and print design, I was a typographer for many years, and I esp love design history . An air fryer in 4 colors. No thanks.
I do agree I should work on my tone, and at times sometimes my more is less approach is not interpreted well.

I was a typographer for many years
I worked in space design as a student. When i was a student, teacher gave us several task based on real life work. The first step was aswering people needs, analysing our market and targetting.
Then, the second step is creating the product and make it appealing through drawing, text, picture, feature…we were designers and advertisers.
So, i the line find between design and ads blur, that’s the opposite with painting but maybe that’s because they were old and i’m not the targes ?
For me, the blog was like reading a newpaper presenting a car’s, or new clotch from a famous designer…
I am always happy to see some graphic design, A nice building, I something that’s considered, beautiful, I personally enjoy clever use of design and print design, I was a typographer for many years, and I esp love design history

So i invite you to do a design showcase/critique on the content, and what about it meets the merit of design?
I am not trying to be factious, just curious of your logic on this, because I see the standard template product promotion from the photography style to the linear block by block layout.
I understand you need people posting but the resistance to call the article an ad is bizarre. Product placement advertising is stretching from away from design to marketing/sales. I understand the two are linked. but there is a fine line.
By all means ignore and justify why this stuff is posted but honestly IMO it ruins the credibility of small forums like this. I don’t mind kitchen products, I love utensils, but i at least call it what it is.

Look I get that some people including yourself care and post. But one of the reasons I like the fedi is that it does not have ads, paid or subliminal.
This feels like an ad. There’s just a link. No discussion etc.
The website might say design but the title and topic walks like a ad, talks like an ad.
There’s little content about atheistic or function. It reads like an influencers promotional piece. Happy to hear differrent

If people like you would spend more time on adding content rather than trying to curtail it, the threadiverse would be a much better diverse place. Even though the other user didn’t point it out very nicely, they did apologize about their comment.
On the other hand you are acting like an entitled brat, gate keeping a community on an open network, and topping it with agressive behavior.
I can confirm that post is blatant advertising more than information about design. Lashing out instead of admitting your mistake is pretty much “You are everything wrong with social media.”
You should seriously chill out and apologize to both Cherry and the mod instead of posting comments that will make everyone leave, unless you get banned first.
A few things.
Firstly, I didn’t see the apology as I wasn’t tagged and I don’t search my username. I literally just try and mind my own business as much as possible.
Secondly, I merely explained to @Snoopy@piefed.social what my opinion was and why, after he responded to me.
Thirdly, I actually like the design. I’ve not seen an air fryer that looks like it, and last I checked, there was no requirement that accompanying text needed to meet a certain standard. I could post a picture from the National Portrait Gallery or an Amazon link, the whole point of the community is to share art and design that we appreciate. At least, that’s how I’ve been using it for years.
Lastly, I wish people would just scroll past things they don’t like. Literally all of my interactions in this thread have been via my inbox, and all of my Lemmy interactions are via my subscribed feed, so I literally only have to deal with things that suit my tastes, or at least are in the ballpark. If that makes me entitled, so be it. At least I’m not being sanctimonious.

We can’t expect people to subcribe and post contents. Most of them will be alway readers Just inviting him to contribute or ignore the post and use filters is enough.
And if it continue, try to ignore it or ask us to intervene.

I’ve contributed to this community for years now. I go out of my way to provide content, not just to this community but to all communities. Someone coming along and saying, “that’s not to my taste” or “this doesn’t meet my standard” is a fuck you. You want better, create better or STFU. People need to act less entitled and actually work to make things better. People that aren’t even subscribed trying to dictate content. Fuck all the way off!
That’s why i said i understand your fustration. I also animate and moderate several communities since several years. Sometime i fell lonely but i enjoy what i read and share.
On the other hand, my role here is doing mediation, pointing whats not right and invite users to cool off.
It’s very hard to reach people. Sadly, my reply didn’t work. I prefer talking and pointing out when it’s not okay. You can’t write something like this.
Because, when people fell entitled to say “fuck off”, so we will react by mimetism and absorb that negative energy and do the same.
So for now, let’s take a break. :)
