NL is a Canadian streamer. His long-time friend and associate Dan Gheesling recently did a sponsored stream with the US Army geared towards recruitment. Given the current stink on the US armed forces due to their complicity with the Gaza genocide, NL felt that actively advertising for them wasn’t something he could support in a friend. Since then other co-streamers of Dan have come out about his poor behaviour and right-wing politics.
NL isn’t even le epic based leftist, he’s a standard Canadian apolitical lib homeowning Family Guy. The thing that most threatens these people is realizing that outside of America, it is normal to dislike America.

I deadass know an Australian woman who moved to the US, got permanent resident status… then joined the national guard. She was studying education (early childhood), finished her degree, went to study more in the US, got a job teaching kindergarten and when she got her green card, she joined the US National Guard. Absolutely bonkers career trajectory.

Nothernlion is a legacy streamer, and a youtuber. he’s just a well adjusted grown adult who has a wife, child and good opinions.
Dan Gheesling is another legacy streamer, and a friend of Northenlion for 14 years, who took an US army sponsorship were he was in the boot camp for a week to advertise the army to his audience of kids about how cool the army is. Northenlion called him out on it and thus the roach is now mad at him.

The other comments have the right context, an added part is that no one dropped Dan (who was also the winner of the second season of big brother and then went into streaming games, wild world right?) outright until he did some kind of “apology stream” where he went “I didn’t know the US army was so political :/. oh well, someone will hate me for anything anyways right? lol”.
I’m surprised that this is a lightning rod for the cockroach though given that the piece NL said was so like- measured and calm? Just explained why they weren’t streaming with him and left it there. I didn’t think much about it.
I guess it makes the stink wizard nervous that people online don’t tolerate the empire doing genocide and that streamers who are normally seen as non-political can launch valid criticisms at the US and be taken seriously.
I apologize for making you recapitulate more drama slop but I still don’t have a clear idea of what is happening here. I am familiar with NL and Dan and the rest of them but, being that I dislike all involved, I haven’t really followed recent events. So Dan does a military recruitment stream, NL and the others object, then Dan does a fake apology stream (what did he actually say?) and now the others have severed ties over this matter? Am I understanding right?

They didn’t really mention Trump at all from what I saw it was pretty much “We’ve done a Gaza fundraiser before, what’s happening there is a genocide, the US army is complicit, it’s fucked up to try and convince your audience of impressionable teens and young adults to help carry that out”.
For the other stuff… if you don’t like any of them I just wouldn’t even bother wasting time on it. We’re just both going to get into the streamer drama weeds and get ticks or something (this isn’t an anology I just love using time to hate ticks).

NorthernLion is a popular Canadian streamer. Dan Gheesling won Big Brother a long time ago and is a popular American streamer. NL and Dan are both friends in real life and have been for a while, like over a decade.
Dan Gheesling has pretty family-friendly streaming content and generally talks about how he’s against bringing politics into his stream. Then he did a multi-day sponsored stream with the US military. Basically, he sold out. Dan came back to his normal streaming schedule and people tried to point out how they kind of felt betrayed by this who sponsored US military thing. Some of his subscribers pointed out that for them the US military doesn’t mean soldiers who protect “freedom” and the other propaganda but rather invading or occupying forces that kill children and do imperialism. Dan’s response was basically, “I’m sorry you feel that way.” This obviously left a huge sour taste in a load of people who supported him.
NL, after giving Dan a chance to come back and make his own statement, finally spoke up. He was really mature and thoughtful about it. He explained that as a Canadian the US military represents a very real and direct threat as lately his country is under a legitimate threat of military invasion. That’s in addition to the stuff happening elsewhere in the world. He didn’t badmouth the guy but basically said Dan needs to think about what he’s representing to his community and realize he fucked up. NL honestly handled it like an adult.
Roachman can’t understand how a person can be a friend but also say, “hey man, you fucked up and you need to right that shit,” because Roachman makes too much money off not understanding it and also probably doesn’t because he doesn’t have the emotional and intellectual maturity to understand it.
