Maybe it was different at one point, but right now, I think it’s fair to ask not if western governments/media are lying, but how they are lying.

This isn’t the whole story, just throwing my ¢2 in the conversation. There was a recent memorial in Canada about deaths attributed to communism. They had to remove the names off that monument as it was pretty much all fascist. So you’re prettty much stating that you’re pro fascist if you’re against communism. And yes, it’s the communists who not only defeated the German fascists, but also the Italian ones as well.

Yeah, I don’t see a point of disagreement on science, or math. I guess it’s more on political/moral views. As far as why, I don’t know, I guess I’ve just always been that way. I don’t see anyone past a line, or not worth changing their mind on. One of, if not the favorite movie of mine is American History X, and that Ted Talk where a black guy befriends a Grand Wizared of the KKK, are stories that speak to me. I get people having their whole lives revolving around conflict, and having a walled off corner of the internet like hexbear where they can unwind is helpful though. To me, even the worst people are worth saving, and if I can’t do it, I’d rather learn from someone who can. Now with all that in mind, I think this post itself isn’t in good faith and it’s not actually someone’s opinion, but someone’s job.

Just isn’t federated with many communities. Unless I have weird settings. I even see posts from certain communities, just not comments. Again, not a fault of hexbear, I’m the issue here. As much as I sometimes hate it, I thrive off toxicity. I’m still finding my home on lemmy. Someone in this post said, that people adjust their personality based on whatever gets most upvotes in each reddit community. And it’s hard to find the right one here. Hexbear is a community, and unless you find a home in any of the sticky posts, you’re outta luck. Those get 100s of comments, other posts are lucky to get 5.

I realize that I’m in the minority here, that’s my main gripe with “tankies” so far. It’s a very wall’d off group. I know it may not even be possible, but I do think it’s a pigsty that has be dove head into first. I realize it’s highly likely they’re not even good faith actors. And just seeing some of the characters in my little instance, I imagine it’s full of thick-skinned motherfuckers, at least they better be if they made it this far with the hand they’re dealt. I get what you mean though, to an untrained eye, it does seem very fractured, and lemmy.world puts themselves on a pedestal. I went there first by default, just as a reddit alternative, and the barrage of “everyone else is the problem” is heavy.

I think that’s the whole point. Basic divide and conquer strategy. The world has seen what genocide looks like. When I first joined lemmy, I noticed the fracturing of it plain as day. While I can’t say that I ever considered myself a “tankie”, I see the appeal, and it’s pretty much the exact opposite of what I’ve been told it was.

Not the first genocide either. It took like a decade for Americans to sour on Iraq/Afghanistan wars, and now we’ve like 15 veteran committing suicide. It took Germany 5 years after WW2 started for Operation Valkyrie to be attempted. We’re already established that Israelis are no batter than Nazis in Germany.
