From what I currently understand, they will need to be approved by Google, so F-Droid and many of the popular apps will likely still be available, but the overall selection will be limited. This will apply to devices with Google Play Services. If you are using a custom rom without Google Play Services, then this change will not affect you.
Mattto DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Just got a new unlocked Samsung 25 Ultra and it's filled with bloatware you're not allowed to uninstall. I need a hack to uninstall it.English17·2 months agoIt was in the news a couple of weeks ago. Here is an article: https://9to5google.com/2025/07/26/samsung-galaxy-one-ui-8-bootloader-unlock/
This is where I thought it was going as well.
Mattto SaltyCaramelApple@sh.itjust.works•Why do I have to click AGAIN to see the full album?!English9·3 months agoIf there are songs from the album in the library, it will only show those first. If there are no songs in the library, then it shows the full album. I can understand wanting to always see the full album, but I can also understand why it works the way it does by only showing the songs liked enough to add to the library.
Proton Mail kind of supports Thunderbird on their paid plans by using the bridge which acts as a local mail server which can then be used in Thunderbird. Tuta does not support Thunderbird at all. Lock-in is the biggest downside of these encrypted email providers.
Thunderbird does not currently offer mail hosting, but they are working on it.

It’s sad to see how quickly T-Mobile has reversed direction and gone from in-carrier to full re-carrier. Carrier More or Carrier Beyond.
Thankfully they have yet to increase the price of my plan, but I am switching to prepaid if they ever do.
Mattto T-Mobile US Unofficial Lemmy Community@lemmy.world•T-Mobile Is Discontinuing All Of Their Tax-Inclusive Plans Except OneEnglish2·4 months agoThis is very disappointing. T-Mobile is literally undoing everything that made them different. It is made even worse by T-Mobile still using the un-carrier marketing.
Colamy Atlas. It is comfortable and very well-built for its reasonable price.
Mattto Privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Looking for a good e-mail provider that's not Tuta/ProtonEnglish2·4 months agoI would recommend looking into an aliasing service such as Addy or SimpleLogin to use a different address for every service, which then gets forwarded to your main email address. This way when you get spam emails, you know who sold your data or had a breach, and you only need to create a new alias and change your email at one place instead of everywhere.
Mattto Privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Looking for a good e-mail provider that's not Tuta/ProtonEnglish1·4 months agoRunbox had contacts and calendar when I used them a couple of years ago, so I would assume it still has them.
I had to enable the Tethered Network Services anti-feature in F-Droid for CoMaps to show up.
Mattto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•They are officially known as string trimmers. Where are you geographically and what do you call them?English12·4 months agoOregon. I have only ever heard them called weed eaters.

But the Switch was a unique form-factor at the time that did not have direct competition for most of its life. Nintendo essentially created the hybrid handheld console segment. As previously mentioned, there is much more competition this time around, including the much cheaper original Switch.
MattOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What are the benefits of a server having multiple public IP addresses?English4·4 months agoI just run some simple services, such as Audiobookshelf or Wallabag, behind a reverse proxy. After reading the other comments, it does not look like there would be any benefit for my use case.
MattOPto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What are the benefits of a server having multiple public IP addresses?English10·4 months agoYes, I have always used a reverse proxy which seems to eliminate the need for multiple IP addresses. It seems like having multiple IP addresses just creates additional cost and complexity, but I have seen many VPS providers offer multiple IP addresses, so I was curious if there was a use case that I was not aware of.

I have had positive experiences with both Radicale and Baikal. I am not sure about the Home Assistant integration, but they both use CalDAV, so I would be surprised if there wasn’t a way of connecting them. iOS has native support for CalDAV, but Android needs the davx5 app (free on F-Droid).
