  • Paraphrasing an article about google changing their motto away from “don’t be evil” to something else: “It would be kind of weird and a little scary if your coworker had a sign that said ‘I will not kill anyone today’. Now imagine how it would feel to walk into the office and notice he had taken it down.”

The removal of the diversity window dressing feels menacing like that. Another poster suggested it could be a means of preventing a future shitshow and that tracks too. But even if there isn’t malicious intent the sudden tidal shift away from even pretending to care is a little bit spooky.

  • The reactionary nature of nostalgia aside…

Making electronics with transparent parts is good because it is a reversal of this phenomenon where the mechanical nature of devices is obfuscated from the consumer. A modern smartphone is designed as though it was ashamed to be a machine, a black box with a screen on one side and a camera on the other. While these do not explain themselves to the user they are open as to what they are, a collection of circutboards and switches and wires arranged in a way that serves a purpose. They are something created with intention, rather than having been produced out of nothing.

That being said, transparent plastics tend to be less durable than their opaque counterparts, which definitely contributed to the end of the trend.

  • Seems like everything was chosen as a gimmick

Thats just how Kel-Tec operates as a company, they produce wierd designs that are centered around gimmicks like “it folds in half!” and “you have to use stripper clips!” and “its a shotgun with two seperate tubes!”. Its really surprising that the company is as sucessful as it is given how niche all of their products are. The internal magazine makes some sense if the goal is to cut down on weight and manufacturing complexity, it requires fewer parts and less material that way. 5.7 was probably chosen for capacity and how Kel-Tec seems to be on a 5.7 kick lately with their pistol that takes P-90 magazines that they released a few years back. I’m pretty sure this is going to be something that people buy to take out to the range a couple times a year, if at all.

  • Sec. 6. Bill Text. Within 30 days of the date of this order, the Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs shall present to the President proposed bill text to codify the definitions in this order.

Sec. 7. Agency Implementation and Reporting. (a) Within 120 days of the date of this order, each agency head shall submit an update on implementation of this order to the President, through the Director of the Office of Management and Budget. That update shall address:

    (i) changes to agency documents, including regulations, guidance, forms, and communications, made to comply with this order; and

(ii) agency-imposed requirements on federally funded entities, including contractors, to achieve the policy of this order.

Does this mean I still have time to apply for a passport or am I fucked? All of my other identifying documents are in order.

  • It’s still pretty common over there, around 60%-55% of AMAB babies are circumcised. Aside from cosmetic and cultural factors, a lot of people get sold on the idea that it has benefits to hygene and overall health outcomes. These aren’t good reasons of course, and the boons it provides are mostly marginal, not enough to justify inflicting that on an infant.

That being said, there is significant evidence that circumcision lowers the probability of HIV transmission and as such it may be beneficial for adults to undergo the procedure voluntarily in regions with high infection rates.
