There are people out there who genuinely try to help others out with providing a reference - probably something that gets discussed outside of a general post like this (saw something similar mentioned on Reddit or maybe it was twitter years ago?), however there are also those who seem to take either take a payment for it or provide a half-assed reference.

I had an experience with requesting a reference for a hire we needed to urgently get onboard. Took it upon myself to keep chasing them for response (HR was useless in the company). And despite being seemingly provided three different people to contact (different names, numbers in different parts of country), this clown had one and the same person giving a very simple repetitive answer. Now you can expect references to sound similar, but if you’re not gonna bother changing your voice (or asking different people to provide ref) at least make sure not to use the exact same uncommon phrase like an idiot.

I myself provided a reference to former colleagues before, written being easier as you get to think about what you want to say. Over the phone being but of a PITA, especially if they have specific questions and you don’t necessarily have a good answer.

That’s what happens when one side is pretty damn reasonable (IMO) and the other are greedy management cunts.

And thinking about it, sure you can’t expect them to reveal whether they are doing anything in return, if it’s secret/covert. But since we haven’t really heard of anything that had negative impact happening in years, it’s more likely that fuck all is being done.

I’ve also seen them slap fake number plates on parked cars. E.g. when they were filming in Metro Vancouver area, for some US movie/TV show, they put California plates on all local cars that were parked on streets/driveways

I found it ridiculous that when I told landlord could smell gas, he was like…“well we can’t smell anything” and when they finally called someone out, the tech/engineer just said - “yea it’s normal to have a bit of a leak at the meter”. These people live in the same fucking building!
If I smelled gas in UK, I called gas company, someone would be out urgently and fix it either inside or outside the house until there was nothing noticeable. I no longer wonder why shit blows up due to gas leaks in NA

There’s very little content for it to be worth it IMHO. I constantly use whatever 2-3 month free offers that come up, catch up on something and if the free trial expires (you can usually use it on same acct as long as it’s not active) I’ll just download the remaining few episodes. Shoutout to the redflagdeals people who post the free offers for appletv

Yup, my wife has and likes some of their base layers. I only bought their descender/quantum hoodies when they were like 40%-50% off. Never paid full price for anything with them.

IIRC the key difference is that it’s smoother/softer and doesn’t feel itchy. I only own merino wool stuff though and can’t remember last time I wore regular wool, so not sure of other differences.

Bought a bunch of long sleeve shirts from Costco (like 15ish?) when they were cheap, as low as $6 per shirt as well as their Kirkland socks (for women, men’s are garbage) so some good deals can still be had there on certain products.

Only saw 50% merino wool/synthetic mix base layers though for sale there, but I know Ice breaker can occasionally have decent sales, but their prices have gone up over the years and quality down a bit since they move production out of NZ.

Edit: I think I first saw the shirts in UK, but only bought them in Canada and they’re made in Canada. They’ve doubled in price (non sale) in the last 3-4 years, but still cheaper than anywhere else and could be used as base layer.
