Watching the coverage right now, as the (shots?) rang out, he grabbed his right ear just before the Secret Service took him down and hustled him off.
Official statement:
“An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available.”
Audio reads “shooter is down” and there are reports of someone in custody.

That headline makes it sound like NYT confirmed it wasn’t staged. Who wants to bet whether NYT did their due diligence before making that assertion?
Happened less than an hour ago, so I’m sure the Famous For Getting Their Facts Straight Before Publishing NYT wouldn’t have written that if they didn’t have a good reason.

In watching the video and listening to the sound over and over it doesn’t sound like a gunshot and people around did not act as if it were a gunshot. My guess is it was maybe a pellet or BB gun.
Edit: I’m hearing others were shot and seriously injured in the crowd. Witness said they thought it was fireworks at first - which makes sense. This would point to actual gun shots. Waiting for more news to come in. Sad day for politics in general whomever you support.
Edit 2: Reports of two crowd members shot. One dead. One injured. :-(
The secret service tackling the president is absolutely people acting as if it were gunshots.
Also, many cameras are complete crap at properly recording guns. The mic caps out easily. You can get anything from a slight ‘tink’ to huge bangs for the same incident.
SS will definitely jump in if the person they are protecting goes down or if there’s anything that could potentially be a danger. The audience behind him didn’t react like there were gunshots. It could be because they heard the source of the sound and could understand the trajectory better. I’m keeping an open mind.
Well, some of the shots were the ones fired by the snipers that killed the shooter, so maybe gunshots on a camera don’t sound like you think.
Snipers would be shooting from a distance. You can look up gunshot / gunshot sounds on youtube and compare. It could be the audio setup though. Looking forward to finding out more. The audience reaction is what is strange to me. It’s more of “what is that?” vs “OMG gun shots!! run!”
