According to the analysis, the richest 1% – about 77 million people, including all those earning more than $140,000 (£114,000) a year

    Wait… 140k/year is the top 1%?

Well it does seem to be talking about the global 1% which is known to include a pretty big slice of the population in relatively wealthy places like the US. The more exclusive 1% that people usually talk about is the US 1% or the 1% of another specific country.

Keep in mind that 1% of 7 billion people is 70 million. And estimates for the number of billionaires in the world look to be under 3000. In addition, most estimates for worldwide median individual income are under 3000 USD per year.

Taking all that into account, 140k sounds pretty reasonable as a boundary for the global 1%.

Yes the global 1%. There are many people who earn around that amount and dont even consider themselves to be wealthy while 99% of the world is poorer than them. It is fucking sad.

It’s not because you earn less in terms of USD per year that you’re poorer. If you own a big house and have a family and can feed everyone and basically live a comfy middle class life in your country, are you really poorer? It’s all about pay vs cost of living.

Yes, if you have a house and can feed a family of four you are poorer than someone who can feed 20 people. I didnt say anyone making less than 140k is poor, but if you make that much you should have the decency to admit you are much wealthier than most.
