        Nah. They had plenty of flaws, even purposeful ones buried in all the bad writing, but they were very much NOT the bad guys. Even for all the hilarious failures, the fascist Empire was absolutely “the bad guys” for most of Star Wars.

          Your mistake is thinking it has to be good vs bad. Star Wars is bad vs worse.

            yes, it’s bad vs. worse.

            which would you prefer given the choice? oh sure you can talk about abstaining your vote for higher principles, but that simply enables worse.

            Truly the Jedi’s greatest moral failure was defending a ten thousand year old pangalactic democracy and not killing all of their political enemies as vanguards of the Revolution to enforce their religious and very, very specifically non-economic standards on the population.

            This makes them innately evil.

            (And for allowing droid slavery)
