Never had it. Growing up, the only place I’d see it was on the grocery store shelf. My folks didn’t have it and when I’d stay anywhere else, they didn’t have it either. I figured it was more for the previous generation and would be really hurting if not gone by now.
Turns out it’s still here and even had a bit of a surge when WFH ramped up and people had time to prepare breakfast.
Have I been missing out? Anyone have a recipe I should try?
Its a blank canvas, fill it in how you normally like food. sweet, do sweet things, savory, throw in savory things. boil gruel with a cinnamon stick in it. make porridge with chunks of garlic and soup stock mixed in. do you.
do you.

Follow the directions on the box for the amount that uses 2 cups of water or milk. Use milk. Use a little more butter than it calls for. Also add a snack size box of raisins.
Before it gets to boiling, put in a couple squirts of maple syrup and some brown sugar. As you mix in the Cream of Wheat, whip it good so it doesn’t clump. You’ll let it clump once. After you bite a clump you’ll make sure it doesn’t happen again. Maybe use an electric mixer.
Used to make it all the time. Loved it. Can’t have so many carbs now.
Porridge and slop are usually a great food.
Do oatmeal instead if you can. It’s so much better with a better texture. I’m fine with cream of wheat but it feels like worse oatmeal in almost every way.
I was forced to have it a few times as a kid, and then it showed up in the first Matrix movie, exactly where it belonged.
It was a often requested breakfast item for me. I would have a slice of butter and a moderate amount of brown sugar, cooked with water. I didn’t like it to be too sweet, so I wouldn’t mix it all the way. I would let the edges stay sort of un mixed and eat the edges first, even better if there was a “dumpling” of the wheat that didnt get incorporated.
It is kind of plain, i dunno – It’s just one of those things that I occasionally crave, but don’t necessarily want to eat it all the time, or even once a year.
I don’t have this in my country, but it’s similar to semolina, no? I might try making semolina porridge then
I don’t know, I usually have yestercoffee or nothing for breakfast.
I prefer steel cut oats, but cream of wheat can be good too.
Grits are better 💪
i used to eat coco wheats with sugar and syrup and butter and a little bit of milk as a kid, idk how i didn’t get diabetes, loved me my sugar slurry
Had to do an internet search to understand what this is and as far as I can tell this is just porridge made from the wheat kernel (semolina)? It’s considered the less healthy porridge in my part of the world as it skips all the fiber and is often made into a whipped lingonberry dessert because the semolina whips up great.
There used to be a chocolate flavoured semolina in the 80s that was often made as a dessert too.
I really recommend trying the whipped version, it’s very good.
it’s great, just have to make it right
I recently saw this in a hotel breakfast buffet, I was surprised. Blast from the past but its not bad.
Bobs red mill 7 or 10 grain hot cereal are my go.to. I imagine it’s healthier than cream of wheat.
