    TLDR

First time she filed she was single and had low numbers, second time she filed including her husbands business assets value, which he is a partner in so the numbers are higher than reality.

People get married and assets go up. Once you learn the details almost everything the right says is misleading.

Her husband being a multi millionaire is no minor detail. But then multi millionaires are the only ones with the leisure and resources to run for office.

But then multi millionaires are the only ones with the leisure and resources to run for office.

So much this, especially when you layer in things like low term limits. Low term limit caps resulted in two things here: politicians having to run for a different positionevery few years and an outsized share of millions running for office. In either case you wind up with a lot of green elected officials every election and none of the reelected ones have strong networks. This seems to have lead to lobbyists having even more sway than usual along with an increase in partisanship.

Based on what I could find a majority of that networth comes from her husband’s businesses, a winery and a venture capital firm. And the jump seems to be related to lawsuits being settled which previously decreased the value of those businesses.

That being said there are plenty of criticisms to made for both Republican and Democratic members of Congress’s ever increasing networth and shady stock trades.

anyone in elected office should at most be paid at federal minimum wage and be forced to cap at the limits of a 1040-ez.

The argument for higher wages for elected officials, when they were instituted a long time ago, was that low wages would create extra incentives for those officials to act corruptly and siphon away public money. That’s an argument that made sense at the time and genuinely held water.

What has happened over time though, is that the loosening of rules around lobbying (read:bribing); the continual massive gains of the ultra-rich to line the pockets of those officials in order to sway public policy; and the capacity for elected officials to use confidential information to engage in insider trading, has meant that those officials act corruptly, just often not in a direct “steal from the public purse” sense.

The original argument no longer holds water. If we instituted severe restrictions on lobbying and fundraising for elected officials as well as rules that prevent insider trading, I’d have no qualms with elected officials earning large sums of money. If their wage is literally the only way they can make money, they should make good money. The problem is that their wage is not the only way they make money.

Politician pay, at any level, is a joke. Our city council members make less than minimum wage, $6,000 salary.

So just turn a blind eye to this kind of wealth disparity amongst people that are supposed to be representi g the populous until the numbers get bigger?

No? But maybe let’s focus on the current issues, instead of someone who owns a business worth 30 million.

1 billion is 1,000 Millions, so to put it in perspective, she got 30, while Elon got richer by 300,000 Millions. I’d say focus on the problems by order of impact.

Penny wise, pound foolish is not a good system for addressing societal problems.

If it’s the same problem it’s the same solution. What do you mean by order of impact? The net worth of redistributing wealth held by decamillionaires far exceeds that held by billionaires. The biggest impact would indeed be to go after this group. Your argument is a very bourgeoisie finger pointing while sipping champagne type approach.

So the difference is 349 billion vs. almost 30 million.*

Can we get a visual please?

It would look something like this:

    x

Except hers would be 10x smaller.

    * and it’s bs anyhow, see this comment

Every MAGA is siphoning up every penny they can get their hands on, but she’s the problem.

Trump entered office in 2016, in deep, deep financial trouble. Technically, the average American had more money than him. Now he’s a billionaire, and everyone around him is looting America.

But she’s the problem, because she married a guy with money, sort of like how Trump’s own daughters Ivanka and Tiffany married billionaires.

Just like Hunter is a criminal for trying to trade on his family name, like EVERY other rich kid. Nobody batted an eye when Jenna Bush was given a multimillion dollar hosting job on The Today Show, even though she had literally no experience at all, and there were thousands of more experienced people who would have loved that job. But affirmative action for non-nepo babies is terrible. And nobody seems to notice how the Trump demon spawn are going around the globe, successfully doing exactly what they accuse Hunter of doing UNSUCCESSFULLY, mainly because he didn’t have the backing of his father, while Trump is using his sons as proxies to apply governmental pressure to their negotiations.

They also like to say that AOC is worth $30 mill, or some random big number, when she’s still paying off her student loans.

This must be the source for my MAGA parents telling us AOC was worth $30 million on NYE. Sigh.

At least they accepted it when we found multiple sources putting her net worth in the neighborhood of $100k.
