Imagine being one of the developers who put their time and effort into the base OS tools back in the day (almost all of which we had as far back as 7) only to watch Windows 11 undo all of it.

      • Work on windows XP
      • Watch the other team fuck up Vista
      • Fix all the horrid shit when you work on windows 7
      • Watch them fuck up windows 8
      • Leave
      • Watch them continue to ruin windows 10
      • Watch them burn it all to the ground with 11

edit : I have never worked for microsoft. I have worked with .net

The hilarious thing about Vista to me is that I remember hating it at the time, but now I’ve seen versions of Windows so much worse that I can’t even muster mild dislike for it lmao

vice versa for me and 10. “oh ok, it unfucked everything 8 did wrong. Sure the settings UI is a little changed, but I’m going to move countries in a few weeks, I can’t change operating systems to 7 or linux now”

fucking SIX years it took me to get off that awful OS

We’ll never know: humans won’t be allowed to touch Windows 12, you can only ask the AI to operate the mouse and keyboard for you.

The AI ethics people are gonne get Microsoft then, for making AI agents interact with their horrible OS.

Just AI generating an image of what the desktop should look like.

Mouse, keyboard, and other inputs are treated like prompts (e.g. move pointer to 43, 135).

All that gets stored on your disk is these prompts in a giant file and it executes it all on each startup to get to the final state you were on last time (it’s never quite right, sometimes completely wrong)

All of that is processed “on the cloud” and you get an eye watering bill at the end of each month (MS is still running on a loss though), but hey at least the PC didn’t cost more than $100 because it’s an SD card, a wireless adapter, and a bunch of cables in a trench coat.

It’s a shame, really. Watching all their progress be reverted and rolled back to make room for “features” that no sane person actually would want.

This is saying that their online MS account has somehow lost the database entry for Snipping Tool (something that should just be integrated into the base OS) being associated with their account, meaning that even though it appears installed and I’m pretty sure based on what I’m seeing the binaries are ready and waiting. The online store prevents it from launching. Definitely exclusive to MicroSlop.

“Why bother taking a screenshot on your own? You could spend 10x as much time describing what you want a screenshot of to Copilot. And after it gives you something you didn’t want, you can spend another 10 minutes looking up open source alternatives to Snipping Tool Copilot Edition.”

Snipping tool is the single Microsoft program that’s suprised me with how flawlessly it works and how convenient it is.

Basic screenshot capability is a fundamental feature of a graphical desktop OS. Whether you bundle a tool (like many Linux distros) or include your own (like MacOS and Windows) doesn’t really matter, but users shouldn’t have to go find a tool.

It’s great that Greenshot and others to exist for people who want more features or a more specialized tool. But screenshots, image viewer with crop/rotate, text editor, web browser… These are things that all need to be part of the standard installation and need to work without signing up for services or other bullshit.

All points I agree with. But at this point using winslop is signing up for a sevice. And it’s full of bullshit.

Yep, it’s still FOSS. It genuinely has better markup abilities than the windows tool too, we use it at work.

Its embarrassing that windows can’t be at least this good without account related bullshit

Flameshot is great for this. Probably overkill for many but it’s perfect if you need it for documenting things.

If even a year ago i could say that windows 11 indeed sucks, but at least is still useful for people who dont care, but now it is literally unusable, and with every update becoming even worse.

Fucking yesterday on my work laptop (I work outside it had wiring diagrams etc) I turned it on went to sign in and it said your pin is no longer supported. So i tried to use my password and had to connect to the internet meaning I had to drive 20 minutes to get fucking wifi to sign into my damn computer

Fuck Microsoft I’m building a pc now that will cost me 2 times as much as it should but it will be Linux full time

It’s not the application’s fault. Microslop Store is a fucking blight on humanity. Words cannot express how much I despise it. Just this week I’ve had two walk-ins who had this error. One was some Alienware bloat that would show a pop-up every five seconds, the other was some other program I can’t recall.

I de-stress by imagining Nadella’s trachea being crushed.
