The roll call shows votes all over the place. Looking closer at the bill, we see it’s a consolidated appropriations[1] act covering 3 appropriations acts
- Department of Defense
- Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies
- Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies.
The CBO cost estimate shows spending for those departments & agencies with increases to
- medicaid
- medicare
- human service programs
- public health programs
- World Trade Center health program.
It’s not entirely for military spending. Is this article biased or misleading?
Congress votes on regular appropriations bills every year. ↩︎
Yes it’s extremely biased.
Progressive critics say the vote exposes the fecklessness and hypocrisy of what claims to be an opposition party.
It’s literally pushing bOtH sIdEs.
So it’s one of those “shut down the entire government” bills that allow the minority to set the agenda, create a political crisis and make the majority have to be talking about bread and butter issues instead of waging culture and threatening literal wars?
I mean, do you even want to disrupt the trumpist machine?
Hey Yanks, is this what resisting trumpist fascism looks like?
The bill is also funding education, human services, transportation, etc. Cutting all of those agencies isn’t resisting Trumpism in the least, either.
And is there any particular reason why a political crisis should be averted? Any particular reason why the administration would not have to be frantically diverting is attention to these issues for the next couple of weeks until some kind of crescendo results in a resolution?
Resistance means making them have to pay a price every step of the way. Each day they don’t have to spend their effort to go on TV to do some petty politicking is a day where they have the bandwidth to spin doctor the events in Minneapolis.
Ending funding for many of these agencies would harm the most vulnerable americans. Unlike Republicans, the DNC understand the cost is some number of human lives which inherently have value.
The most vulnerable people in your country are already being hunted down and put in concentration camps. Helping the fascists keep the lights on is not resistance.
If you are not ready to do political and institutional resistance that actually raises the stakes, you will create the conditions where people will either have to choose complete capitulation to fascism or violent insurrection.
I for real don’t know what the fuck is going on.
They work for the same boss, that’s what’s going on.
It’s a classic good cop bad cop routine.
No it fucking isn’t.
GOP needs to go
DNC needs to go
Their level of activism is putting various hashtags in their socials bio
Don’t be too harsh, there’s a few out there doing movie and philosophical quotes.
I know, it’s not voting or anything but it’s something.
Your account is odd. In my entire life I’ve never heard a Canadian say yanks. I’ve heard it numerous times from Russian and Chinese speakers. As I dig in on your account I see tons of posts encouraging violence, and in particular encouraging liberals to commit violence. At the risk of downvoting, I believe you are a bot, troll, or sock puppet account.
I’m Greek-Canadian. In Greece, yankee go home is a classic anti-american slogan in leftist circles.
I don’t know where you found the “tons of posts encouraging violence”. I have made multiple posts encouraging non-violent resistance.
We should look to Greece for examples of how to stop the Nazis.

Travelled with a Canadian on K’gari years ago.
He called them ‘Yankees’ constantly.
Liberals are not as far removed from conservatives as they think they are.
