I talked to my friend from highschool, who is gay, about the democrats being responsible for creating and persisting the systems that are oppressing people, including ICE. His response was that he’s going to VOTE for whoever will let him live. Which, yeah I get. But it was hard not to question how many lives of brown people worldwide he was willing to throw under the bus.

As a gay guy, my impression is that most American gays, particularly white gays, would throw a million Arabs under the bus if it meant they got 10 cents off their monthly transit pass. Who knows, maybe this is why I’m single for life.

It really does feel sometimes that there’s a correlation between people’s proximity to whiteness and their ability to overlook barbaric acts against others. And there’s often very little incentive to question the brainworms that proximity to whiteness brings, since they directly benefit from them.

There are deportation actions Trump is doing that are new and might not have happened under Harris. ICE probably wouldn’t be able to play musical chairs with deportation centers by shipping people all over the country to isolate them from family and lawyers, probably wouldn’t have tried deporting people to El Salvador or other third countries, probably wouldn’t be attempting to reverse asylum decisions and greencard holdings and even naturalization, probably wouldn’t be laying siege to cities and murdering people on the streets for the crime of talking back, etc etc.
Things are worse and we shouldn’t ignore this.
It’s just important to remember where the blame goes. Things are worse because Harris decided to throw the election for Israel.

More to the point, she didn’t run on this platform and instead on one of increased funding to enforcement agencies and so this smug posturing that is masquerading as a question is based on an utterly invalid premise. It’s like pointing at the genocidal NATO bombing campaign against Yugoslavia and saying “To all the people who voted for Bill Clinton instead of Bob Dole, how do you feel about that decision today?” as if the other guy would have been a better choice by virtue of the fact that he didn’t have his finger on the red button and you can’t prove for a fact that he would have pressed it (although we all know he would have.)

Literally everything I said would happen if Biden won came to pass. He did nothing to improve things, or even meaningfully undo the harm of Trump 1. He gave them time to regroup and plan and then handed them the election on a silver platter.
Trump and his cronies wouldn’t have been this well organized and ready to act if they had won in 2020. It would’ve been the same rate of decline we were on before, probably barely indistinguishable from Biden. All Biden did was piss them off and give them time to strategize, so when they came back in they had a plan.
