Some reviewers are just stupid people. I remember seeing a review of a game where they continually complained about the camera… the camera that was 100% player controlled on the right stick.
Did they just, not once, ever, try to move the camera? Yeah, that would be a bad experience in a 3rd person game…
I mean… I’ve played plenty of 3rd person games with a 100% player controlled camera, where the camera absolutely sucked. There’s much, much more to a good camera.
That’s funny in this context, because BG3 has a terrible camera.
I thinks it’s pretty good for most of the game. It only gets borderline broken when verticality comes into play during some battles.
Ugh this just gave me a flashback to Wyll falling down into the spidery depths of the goblin camp. When it was his turn the camera absolutely fritzed out because he was the lowest character on the map (which is three levels, each with huge verticality). I had companions up in the rafters, the ground floor, and the depths. I sent Gale down after Wyll to try to keep him alive and help him get back up, but then I had two bugged cameras. Had to target magic missiles on the enemy icons, that was the only way they could do anything from down there.
The camera is pretty much my only criticism of the game. It’d also be great if third person view was enabled on PC without mods…
I’ve been playing Zelda TotK lately and the third person camera in that game is amazing. I wish BG3 had that kind of camera when playing with a controller.
I don’t know of a good intuitive free cam for m+k play that would work well in a game with a lot of verticality. They all seem a bit over complicated to me.
I disagree completely. It’s complete ass. The first thing you should do in any Larian game is install a camera mod.
It should just be a freecam.
Surely they don’t fuck it up 4 times in a row… right?
I rate Vincke’s opinion a 3/10. Actually make it a 2 because that tool still uses Twitter.
This “Larion CEO says…” reporting trend is starting to become as annoying as the Kojima worship.
But who critiques the critic’s critics?
It’s critics all the way down baby
