I’d first like to state for the record that I do not believe it, but at the same time, I’ve seen very, very little discussion of these claims from both the few times I’ve browsed the news mega (which, to be fair, I haven’t done a lot of and I need to do more of) and from using the search bar.
I am curious about this, but the combination of brain fog, trying to sort through the muddled, tangled mess that is the output of most modern search engines, and just a sort of unwillingness to entertain the constant stream of western sources has left me with almost nothing.
I know very little about it, and I want to be better equipped to deal with these claims I know are most likely at bare minimum highly exaggerated.

USAID was running through their greatest hits a month or two ago and shortly after some protests there was a social media campaign of people suddenly saying Iran had killed millions of people in like an overnight genocide or something. It didn’t take off so they promptly moved on to their next banger. A few weeks later and Trump was bombing Iran. They basically did a speed run through the manufacturing consent checklist for it.
That makes a bit of sense. It’s my fault honestly for assuming there was even a nugget of truth to this. I really thought for a second “this can’t just be a bold-faced lie” but I guess it really was just a bold-faced lie.

Not quite “any” traction. I know of a few dumbass liberals that still repeat the talking points. It’s the perfect “no u” retort for Pissreal doing a holocaust.
The only reason US has never killed that many protestors is that USians are the most obedient population on the planet. Perhaps in human history.
What our news calls ‘protests’ in their country would be called ‘violent riots’ by the same media if it happened here. They would blame the protesters and everyone currently parroting this line against Iran would gobble it up because their entire worldview is based upon the infallibility of liberal institutions
there were protests about money crash which were infiltrated by mossad/cia local operatives, who did pre bombing campaign preparations: burning police stations and first responders. iran has liquidated them and i assume hurt nearby protestors, the consensus number is around 3000-5000 dead, with unknown amount of them being bystanders. (they claim around 500 in those are people hurt by those operatives, i believe)

Yeah, there is definitely extreme hypocrisy with these claims. Amerikkka and it’s allies retain the title of the Great Satan.
I don’t have evidence organized, but I wouldn’t be quicjnto dismiss this as a compete lie.
There were protests against the government, there was repression, there was an internet blackout.
The protests were not calling for American intervention, but they certainly took the opportunity to use the situation for atrocity propaganda.
Any death toll in the tens of thousands was made up by CBS/ Bari Weiss. My impression is that it was in the thousands at most, but I haven’t seen enough information about the sequence of events to feel confident in that number.
I am interested in learning more about the protest situation, but I think it would be a leap to suggest that there were no protests or repression in recent weeks leading up to the conflict.
I may return with better sources later to start putting a picture together.

Iran claims 3700 killed, US NGO claims they can account for 7000 dead with more to investigate. Details about who when and where remain unavailable (last month when the article was written, but I imagine we won’t see more information for quite some time bow that the war is going on).
