I get that approaching American military decisions from the standpoint that theyre trying to be able to win wars as opposed to enriching as many contractors as possible as much as possible makes any analysis baffling, but like…there is a certsin limit where you get deminishing returns

My grandfather once told me a story about that, how when it was his turn to sit and sort through a decade or so old cache of WWII rations, sending the canned goods to the mess and trashing the perishables and cigarettes, he set aside and stole all these ancient, stale cigarettes instead of throwing them out. He laughed while describing how he had to hold them up at an angle to stop all the tobacco from falling out while smoking them, because they were practically falling apart after sitting in storage so long.
