To transfer files using netcat, it’s:

I move between NixOS and OpenBSD but try to keep things consistent for both.
Window Manager: I use a patched DWM. I have a suckless repo which makes adding my WM/Terminal/launcher/whatever to various distros/operating systems a breeze.
Terminal: patched ST which I will sometimes multiplex with tmux
file manager: if I need it, then it’s Yazi. but generally i just stick to the command line for file management.
Browser: for a long time I was using Qutebrowser but it feels like development has slowed down on it and the bugs have mounted. just doesn’t work as well as it once did and on OpenBSD it’s completely broken. so now I’m just boring and using a barebones version of Firefox on both systems. I was using Floorp on NixOS with Firefox I can keep it consistent across both Operating Systems.
IDE: honestly depends on what day it is. I’ll switch from Neo/Nixvim to DOOM Emacs to Helix. currently i’m using Helix on both systems as it’s snappy and it’s working well for me right now. config is easy. I might stick with it for awhile. I’m still getting used to some keybinds. biggest gripe is hitting ‘a’ drops you down a line so I have to keep remember to use shift+a instead. minor stuff like that.
that’s about it really. I try to keep my systems as minimal as possible.

What do you use for notes and file/note syncing?

I use Helix + Markdown + Zettelkasten + Git + Codeberg for notes. I just wrote a script whenever I type ns to the terminal I go to the Notes directory and it creates a process that git pulls in the background. I also add a half a second delay to opening Helix so HOPEFULLY by the time I write to the notes they are updated. As for backups, I was using Timeshift but it just uses too much space so I just got rid of it. I am just being careful when deleting files and directories.
I also love Zettelkasten+Markdown. When I switched from Vim to Neovim, Zettelkasten was no longer compatible. Later I found Telekasten, which is basically the same and my notes directory is still named zettelkasten. :-) I got a bit lazy and stopped doing much notes and recently tried to get into the habit again. A local Git repository makes a lot of sense to save versions of the notes, but I never got into that. An online Git repository makes sense if you want have your notes on different machines, I just never needed that.
As for your script with Git in background and a delay hoping everything is synced up… I understand why this is done, but there has to be a better way.
