What people should remember is that we don’t choose between good looking and bad looking wheel covers. We choose between racing (if this thing works) and no racing.

Absolutely! I really hope they figure out a design that allows them drive in extreme wet contlditions.

Agreed. I bet this version is probably a prototype to see if they’re even remotely in the ballpark of containing spray. If it does work well then they can improve the form.

It won’t work because most spray comes from the diffusor

Nice static surface for sponsors, imagine the Ferraris running with 4 HP logos for wheels

The best potential sponsorship location since the LED hubcaps on the 2022 reg concept car.

Zak’s probably already brought in a tonne of sponsors to cover them.

Definitely ruins the aesthetic, but if it helps with spray I guess it’s a good thing. Would make pit stops a bit harder I imagine though.

“So we need something to protect the driver’s head, let’s add some kind of brace in front of their face.”

“Ok now there’s too much water being sprayed around when it’s raining so let’s add some kind of cover over the wheels!”

WEC people be like “What the hell is wrong with these guys?”

I was under the impression that the floor/diffuser throws up as much, or more, water than the tires, so while reducing spray from the wheels would certainly help there would still be a small tsunami behind the cars on a very wet track, no?

I did a little reading and yes the defusers do bring up a lot of water. They just don’t know how much compared to the tires. Or at least they are not saying.

How are they connected to the tyres? Pitstop is going to be challenging, when the teams want to switch to intermediate or soft.

Hopefully they’re not connected to the tyres else it will be very bumpy to drive

Oh just go closed-wheel and closed-cockpit already, you know it’s going there, for safety and astrodynamic.

Not sure how to keep the same suspension system tho, maybe with slightly movable well arches?
Or just make it worse (limit it) to make the cornering more “fun” …
