One thing I’d like to comment on is what Jared said during the show: “while resources are tied with work on S42 we shouldn’t stop adding things for SC”.
I agree, sure, but why not focus on storylines that can actually be supported by currently available features? Why make a regen/medical/science related narrative and not tie it to those systems when they’re added?
I dunno, there’s probably no good answer to that since I know I’d be just as annoyed if all they focused on for the next year/two/whatever is needed to finish Squadron was combat stories. Not like they were interested in avoiding pew pew in a science storyline but whatever.
Anyway, pretty interesting episode for those interested in things beyond gameplay.
I’ll post my usual TL;DW once I’m done.
Ah, I see. I thought it was specifically related to TC2. Thanks for clarifying.
I haven’t played or owned TC but game preservation is an important topic for me so I also signed and tried to popularise it as much as possible. I don’t expect much but every attempt is important.
To be fair, the update itself was announced last year (here is a random IGN article about the announcement) after people started complaining about upcoming shutdown of the first game (which in turn spawned the Stop Killing Games initiative).
Not that this makes the filing irrelevant but it’s not some knee-jerk reaction thrown together on the spot. Besides, game built with online components in mind calling servers once a minute isn’t really that crazy (whether that should be a thing for a single player mode is a different matter).
PTU patch notes mention mission refactor for multiple mission types (including handyman ones marked for feedback focus) so we should have some more variety if everything goes well with 4.1.1. Here’s hoping.
It improved quite a bit since early days, it’s just the flat structure they used to run with led to a messy development and disjointed feature set.
Valve did make some changes in terms of organisation a few years ago so hopefully all the recent improvements will lead to a serious UI overhaul to tidy things up.
Yes please! Browsing Steam is such a stupid experience, it’s staggering they still can’t be bothered to fix it.
Ahh, you meant video calls. I thought we were talking about the physical screens around LZs and was wondering how they approached training scenario (as in a separate instance or in AC). This clears things up. Cheers!
This is the second “proper” narrative event so I’m sure we’ll get there eventually.
How is it used in the training mission? Are you talking about them using the screens or something else?
I really hope they’ll start including more tangible (as in gameplay affecting and in world) elements in the future rather than just throwing them on tablets/mobiGlas and calling it a day. I realise they have to deal with various limitations at the moment so I’m willing to wait for now but I hope they’ll reach out for some low hanging options for the next event or two (why no people protesting in front of hospitals as described in the news article?).
I’m really curious about this episode.

Bruh…
Yeah, I’m aware of the logistics behind holo’s productions (weren’t recordings for Kiara’s live suppose to happen in December or something before being delayed?). It’s just nice to see these small signs of activity considering most (?) fans expected “affiliate” to be a meaningless label with no real outcome besides hope.
So the affiliate status wasn’t just a cope?! Thank you Kiara, very nice.
I really need to reread these early parts cause I don’t remember all of those hints and revelations being thrown around as quickly and as plainly as they are here (this isn’t a critique, I genuinely forgot a lot from these chapters).
I promise I won’t be comparing the show with manga every time (I really enjoy it as its own thing!) but man, I do think they dropped the ball with some of the missing scenes this time. We lost on some fun character interactions and pretty important developments/hints for characters, setting and the mystery itself.
I really hope they’ll come back to some of that stuff as few of the omissions hurt the show in my opinion.
Alright, rant over.
Another pretty episode and one with my girl Xiaohei too boot! I love her, especially in this voiced and animated version.
I forgot to mention it last week but I was surprised they decided to go with a wholly separate VA for Kujirai B. It makes the distinction between the two even stronger than it felt (for me) in the manga form. I wonder if this is a deliberate choice suggested by the author or something the studio came up with.
Either way, I don’t mind one bit.
It’s been a while since I watched an ongoing series so it’s nice to start with something I enjoy.
Man, I never saw a ship meeting in person. Looks cool.
I hope they’ll try the other idea I saw which was: put multiple Polari under the the OLP and fire the laser right into them. Should make for a decent stress test.
No worries, I actually didn’t even think about them manually cleaning up stuck parts of ships as I simply forgot about them - I don’t visit the popular locations and most of the ones I do stop by don’t really have much wrecks around them.
I actually spent some time playing today and the whole experience was pretty wholesome overall. Servers worked fine for the most part, newbies were showered with help, everyone chatted and had a good time. No excessive hostility either (beyond the usual bickering).
Dunno if this will stick through the weekend or the rest of FF but day 1 was a nice surprise.
I understand what you’re saying but we’re talking about a multi billion dollar company. At this point there is no excuse you can give for not fixing simple and easily identifiable issues with user experience - especially since all of this has been criticised for years. As much as I appreciate some of the recent additions, fixing this mess should be priority number one.
