It’s almost an atoll, the water is very shallow over a wide area. China can ‘reclaim’ the land and make a static aircraft carrier out of it, like Guam. Needless to say, this completely tanks the ecology of the area and makes traditional uses by locals impossible.

When people start acting like the class war is happening right here between their fellow fedi citizens, that’s when it becomes a bit unhinged.
Yes I’d love it if people only voted on posts they have taken the time to fully read but that ship has sailed so we might as well do the same for reactions.
Ok this functionality is working great now. The problem I had was caused by having the ‘Only moderators may post’ setting ON for the community, and the rss feed bot account is not a moderator.

Yes, that message needs tweaking.
Another thing that can cause that message to be displayed is if mods have not been active for 3+ months. In that case it’d be best to talk to the admin team on the source instance.
I’m wary of making it easier for spammers to find abandoned communities, however.

2·2 days agoI turned it off just after posting that comment. After a few bumps (expired SSL, no cron on the server), it worked fine although now lemmy.world isn’t sending us any content. So, not really fine.
Yep. I’m sure we’ve all learned a lot since then.
We know that socialism has in the past made the same trade-off between the environment the economic growth. That the environmental damage wasn’t even worse might have more to do with how bad they were at growing their economy than anything else. I don’t know, I wasn’t there.
It’s going to take more than eating the rich. Workers will need to be continually on their guard against the centralization of power and the emergence of a disconnected elite that happened every other time socialism was tried (and every time capitalism was tried, to be fair).

I was referring to the past. Chernobyl, Baku, Aral Sea, Norilsk, Liaoning, etc all of which were very messy places while being run in a command economy.
