stop trying to give me an ultimatum, saying iāll go to hell or that we canāt be friends if i donāt pray.
if iām uncertain that god exists because thereās NO PROOF EITHER WAY for me.
iām not a āperfectā straight christian woman like you are, iām not going to change myself because my looks ātemptā men. i dress for me, not for men.
i donāt CARE if same-gender relationships are āsinsā and youāll go to hell. there are some pro-lgbt churches. i donāt care if āall women are for is to complement men and theyāre inferior and they should only be with other men for that reasonā.
this shit makes me so mad. i donāt have to be religious if i donāt want to be. thereās this one straight christian woman i know and she hates other women itās so annoying, and she claims to support the lgbt but ādoesnāt care about gay/trans rightsā.
omfg shut up, thereās some actual kind christians despite me not being one myself, but these people obviously arenāt.
if youāre genuinely curious as to whether i pray, am christian/religious, or go to church, then thatās fine, but DONāT TRY TO FORCE ME. i thought christianity preached acceptance??
if iām uncertain that god exists because thereās NO PROOF EITHER WAY for me.
This sentence is not grammatically correct.
But I agree with the sentiment.
you canāt prove that no god exists, but there are a lot of proofs that the christian god cannot possibly exist.
and itās important to remember: a christian is only one god less atheist than you. they need to prove zeus, shiva, quetzocoatl, and loki donāt exist or their religion is just nonsense.
you canāt prove that no god exists, but there are a lot of proofs that the christian god cannot possibly exist.
I agree 100% with the latter part of that statement.
But itās not up to anyone to prove that something does not exist. Itās entirely up to the person making the claim that gods do exist, to provide the evidence.
At that point, youād be able to either validate the evidence or prove it to be wrong.
The problem with any religion is that itās based on faith. And what is faith? The belief in something without evidence that it exists. š«¢
Donāt waste your time even worrying about religion. Lifeās too short for that nonsense.
well āgodā is a pretty nebulous term. the olympian gods, you can disprove most of them with a satellite photo or a helicopter. the norse gods are a little harder to disprove. the christian god is pretty easy to disprove.
It is true that nobody should have to worry about proving negatives on peopleās obviously made up fairlytale bullshit. it is sometimes fun to point out that if you define your god sufficiently, it can be and has been done.
and I would love to not worry about religion, but im queer and live in the united states, so I need to be pretty on my toes about that shit if I donāt want to be raped to death in a very pretty building/strip mall.
āWe canāt be friends if you donāt prayā
OK.
Walk away.
This is my response to any kind of ultimatum. And I say āOKā as dispassionately as possible, as if someone said they prefer vanilla over chocolate ice cream.
we canāt be friends if i donāt pray.
āBye then.ā
āall women are for is to complement men and theyāre inferior and they should only be with other men for that reasonā.
Sheās in deep. You donāt have to save her if you donāt want to.
If a religion doesnāt allow its members to be friends with non-members, that religion is a cult.
You probably donāt want to engage with cult members anyway, unless it is to help them leave the cult.
Stay true to your principles. There are many, many others out there who agree with you. Oneās religion should NEVER motivate one to force it upon others.
In fact I think there is no true āfreedom of religionā without āfreedom FROM religionā (as in, every individual is free to practice their religion of choice, so long as such practices harm no one else, or to practice NO religion). If only our governments would codify this explicitly into law.
Religion exists by virtue of being forced on people. Many gently reject it and many are battered and beaten mentally until they donāt. People born into religious families will very very often share their family religion and other beliefs no matter what they are. People who have nothing else to turn to will often choose religion because it gives them hope and a group to belong to. Anybody who likes you will try to get you to do their things with them whether itās praying or playing a specific tabletop RPG. Itās a pain in the ass and the people who donāt understand āNoā arenāt worth your time.
Christians preach acceptance? Thatās the farthest thing from truth
OP - If you donāt give thanks and praise FSM, youāll find all your vermicelli will break into short pieces, and your macaroni will be mushy. Who would want to dine at your home then?
My thoughts on religion are about the same as having an invisible friend. Sure, thereās nothing wrong with that, up until age 3 or 4 or so when youāre supposed to realize the invisible friend doesnāt exist.
Begun the edgy Atheist redditor rants have

The people you are talking about are not Christians. They do not follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. They are at best cafeteria Christians and at worst Christians in name only.
- A: āNo Scotsman puts sugar on his porridge.ā
- B: āBut my uncle Angus is a Scotsman and he puts sugar on his porridge.ā
- A: āBut no true Scotsman puts sugar on his porridge.ā
I wonder if weāll ever find a true Scotsman.
Ok, but a āChristianā is anyone who claims to be a Christian. There are no other unifying features of Christianity that make one a āTrueā Christian. Of course, all Christians claim to be the āTrueā Christians, and claim that any Christians who do not meet some arbitrary requirement arenāt really Christians. All Christians have equal claim to the ideology, and this equally validates their claim to be Christians and invalidates their claims that others are not real Christians.
Christians follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. If you donāt follow the teachings of Jesus Christ but call yourself a Christian you are a Christian in name only.

Jesus Christ had a lot of teachings, one of which is that all humans are imperfect. All fall short, and let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Does that mean you arenāt a Christian, since youāre expecting perfection of Christians?
Perfection, no. An effort, yes. I am an atheist and live in a country with actual religious freedom.
Iād argue that anyone claiming to be a Christian believes they are making an effort to follow the teachings of Christ as they understand them.
Iām not sure why you think where you live is relevant, but OK.
If āChristiansā had read and understood the Bible instead of just accepting what bad faith actors told them I bet they would probably be better Christians.
Where I live is relevant since as an atheist I have actual religious freedom which means that the Christian prohibition against judging others does not apply to me. I am free to judge that false Christians are horrible people.
The problem is in understanding the bible. Christianity is an esoteric religion. A quick read is not going to get someone there. It is beyond most peoples range of knowledge. Eastern religions ( Buddhism, Hindu, etc ) make it clear that a teacher is needed to understand. In the west Christianity is a perverted false religion at this point and has been for a very long time. This has allowed for many āfalse Prophetsā (which the same religion clearly warned against) to lead masses of people down a wrong path.
You have a rose-tinted picture of Christianity. Christians are Christians are Christians are Christians. You donāt get to be the arbiter of ārealā Christianity.
Christians are the followers of the teachings of Jusus Christ. If you donāt follow the teachings of Jesus Christ you may call yourself a Christian but you are not a Christian.
And who exactly decides whether you are following the teachings of Jesus Christ?
Are you the arbiter? Out of curiosity, should I send prospective Christians your way for adjudication? I just feel like I need to know who I can safely ignore and those who legitimately are Christians and have the correct moral standing to judge my placement into eternal damnation.
Whatās the best way to get a hold of you? Do you charge for this service or is this something of a ministry? Do you have a website or should I just DM you here?
Fortunately, the teachings of Jesus Christ are well documented and whether they are or are not following those teachings is self evident.
Might want to change the name of your religion then, because itās been mainly overtaken by evil hateful people, and youāre not going to get it back.
Iām an atheist. Atheism is not a religion. Itās the complete lack of religion.
Iām aware of what atheism is, thanks, sweetie.
Maybe donāt talk like you know what a āāāreal Christianāāā is. I know what it is because I lived that life and am now stuck in a town where itās the majority. Fuck your pussyfooting.
Sit down.
Does that ever work? It isnāt going to work with me.
Itās obvious that the loudest modern āāāāāāāāChristiansāāāāāāāā (Iām not sure what the point of all those quotation marks is but Iām just going with it) pick and choose the most hateful passages of the Old Testament to justify their own fear, hate, and self loathing.
You may not like it but it is the truth.
Sorry that it hurts your feelings to know that current Christian ideology is hateful and shitty.
It doesnāt hurt my feelings. As Iāve said a couple of times, I live in a country with actual religious freedom where what those shitty people believe doesnāt effect me in any way. Their beliefs donāt prevent my gay friends from marrying and they donāt prevent my wife, daughter, and female friends from making decorations about their own healthcare without interference from shitty people who donāt know them.
There is a difference between pointing out that they are shitty people and having hurt feelings. It appears that the only people with hurt feelings in this conversation are those who are butt hurt because I pointed out that some modern Christians are horrible people.
Cafeteria sounds good. How could something cafeteria-related be bad?
They pick and choose.
They follow Leviticus 20:13 but not Matthew 7:1-3 or Luke 6:37.
They chose which teachings to follow based on their own fear, hate, and self-loathing.
Ever been in a shitty cafeteria? I have.
