Thanks all for the berfday love yesterday (and the rave choon) :)

Sort of try to have a tradition and have an evening fire w/ every revolution, no phone, no screens, and that happened this year which was nice.

It’s been such a rollercoaster this last year and you peeps have been extremely helpful moderating it for which I’m eternally grateful.

I just slept for nearly 12 hours and am feeling slightly jetlagged. I think I need to revise down my plans for the day, given it is half over already!

I’m mostly surprised Mr Woof and Miss Meow snoozed in too, normally they would have pushed me out of bed to make breakfast earlier. I guess they wanted a Sunday sleep-in too.

My mother, like a number of middle - older aged women, has fallen into the SheIn / Temu craze. I find it a bit ironic, seeing as she used to work in fashion and make clothes. The most useful thing she’s gotten from Temu is this portable air pump for tyres.

Anyway. I came home last week, and there were two baseball bats, and a bingo set on the table. I ask too many questions, which my family hate, but I was genuinely curious as to what these items were doing in the house. My mum is not the kind of person to play bingo, or do sports. I asked my mum what the items were doing there. She deflected the question in some way.

A week later, the bats were still on the table.

Me: what are the bats on the table for?

Mother: what do you think they’re for?

Me: to hit someone with if they break into the house?

    Her: doesn’t say no

Me: did you get them from Temu?

    Her: no, SheIn

I’m convinced she wanted free delivery or had a coupon. Grrrrr.

Me: I would just let someone kill me if they break in.

Her: well I don’t want to die that way. I’ve got one under my bed.

I’m convinced this woman is going insane. Yes, protect your safety. But keeping bats? We live in a relatively safe part of this city but there have been a few aggravated burglaries and stabbings nearby in recent times. Someone nearby had their car stolen from their garage.

I just think it’s a bit too much. It would be fun to bludgeon someone who’s trying to attack me though (/j). Anyone else sleep with some sort of weapon near them?

I have a baseball bat, for when I lived in a house that didn’t have a secure fence lol. I still have it, I’ve never used it, it’s brand new.

I get the idea, but leaving them on the table for that long is silly as 😂

And the addiction to buying shit from shein and temu is just pure consumerism at its finest 🤦‍♀️

I buy a lot of stuff online because I’m sick of being ripped off by shops here

I just live in a safe area now and choose good friends and stay away from danger.

In Carlton I lived in a gated courtyard. The area was unsafe.

      no weapon

weapons are something assailants can grab and use against me, I’m not skilled enough or brave enough to use one

if I truly need one I will use what’s at hand, furniture, rocks, a bottle, anything I can grab and shove/throw in their face, balls and knees

I sleep with Mr Woof nearby, although he is more deterrent than weapon.

I don’t really understand the way people shop for “discounts”. I shop at places like Temu when they have what I want for the best price, and I’ll use a coupon if it achieves that result. But I start with wanting to get an item and finding the best price as the priorities, some people seem to focus on spending coupons and getting discounts and whether they are getting something they actually want or getting the best actual price seems to be an afterthought.

Yes. It doesn’t look like a weapon but it absolutely is. My MIL talks big on security but is bloody hopeless, likewise Mr P (example; leaving gates/windows/doors wide open and doddling off to bed 😡). Everything is a weapon if you believe lol. Seriously, we’ve had a few security scares in the past and I am both ready and willing to defend my children.

Dammit, I WANT TO SLEEP IN! Stupid bladder!

It’s been a tough weekend for sticking to my guns actually. Every week I finish physically tired from work, and every weekend I get sucked in (usually by Miniest but they’re all guilty) to traipsing around Kmart or cafes or something that isn’t resting. This weekend I’ve really put my foot down and said no, I need to rest, I need to save money, Miniest has a cold and I know you’re bored but that’s bad luck, I’m exhausted and I’m not taking a coughing child out in shitty weather to be stared at like a family of monsters.

My boys are a bit like that now where they’ll get me up earlier than I’d like and we need to have quieter weekends. Last weekend I was sick and wanted a quiet one that didn’t work out, but seems like we’re having a quiet sunday

I have just had to remove a dead rat from my garage. No way of knowing if it had taken a bait or not, so not to be disposed of in the compost. Into the landfill bin it goes.

After a late start to the day I managed to get myself going and sort out meals for the next few days. Egg, bacon & cheese muffins for breakfasts, pumpkin soup and a vegemite scroll for lunches. I’ve also got some crumpets to go with jam for snacks and some fruit.

I totally botched transferring rice from the packet to the canister, so have now also vacuumed.

I’ve discovered that when we have wildly windy and wet weather it drives enough rain into the rangehood exhaust that I get a few drips of water come through and drip onto the stovetop. Which is nice and gunky from having run down the sides of the exhaust vent.

Is there any gadget or device you’d gladly buy again?

I received a free Logitech K380 loungeroom keyboard through some postage mishap with Dick Smith years ago. It’s a great keyboard because it also has a trackpad built in.

I bought it again later because they updated it with Bluetooth to save on USB ports. I’d gladly buy one again now if it had USB-C charging and multi-device connectivity, but I don’t think Logitech even make it anymore.

It would be great to connect one to the Steamdeck when connected to the TV for the occasional launcher screen like for Baulder’s Gate 3. We tweaked some BG3 settings so we could play local coop on the deck

I dropped my Sony XM3’s last night, this morning they were acting up, during trouble shooting I was checking OzBargain for a new pair fully prepared to replace them on the spot if needed.

Mine have been so good as well, but I got some cheap edifiers for work. When the time comes I might go for some more expensive edifiers. They won’t be as good but will I notice the difference?

I bought a kind of multi tool as a gift for a relative and have been meaning to get one for myself/the family car. It has a rechargeable torch which also has an emergency flashing alert beacon, a seatbelt cutter and something to smash car windows in an emergency. Hopefully I’ll buy but never need it.

I kind of have this with a jump starter my parents bought me a few years ago. I’ve only used it a couple of times and mostly on other people’s cars. We took it out a while ago and someone needed one when we went to a community farm recently so it went back in the car so we wouldn’t make that mistake again

Yep. An iPad mini. Absolutely the perfect size for reading a variety of material from various sources.

Super slim, weighs bugger all and of course gives access to the AppStore for some handy music tools.

I would replace mine in an instant.

I think they do. I used to have the old nexus 7 tablet yonks ago but the play store isn’t much competition to the iOS AppStore as far as music apps are concerned.

The appliance can be used as a crockpot too. Just bring everything up to temp before putting it in the rice cooker, then set on keep warm for however long you need. Does great stews and pot roasts. I have done persian rice in a rice cooker and it came out great. I have been told (but haven’t tried) that a rice cooker does great fruit cakes too if you like fruit cakes.
