He drives a G-Class SUV, they start at $148,000.
He beat a bicyclist unconscious just for complaining.
I think the assumption that he’s a rich, entitled douche is justified.
Dunno sounds more like psychopath behaviour …
That’s what they said.
Yeah, as a Mercedes guy (currently driving an Audi, but that’s an entirely different story that I’d like to end as soon as possible) I’d like to discount anyone whose Mercedes costs over 100k from our ranks. When it’s at least 10 or 15 years old, the second or third or whatever owner can be considered a Mercedes person again.
The brand new G class folks in particular give us a very bad rep, since it’s usually rich assholes who care about the looks, rather than its excellent offroad capabilities. Those of us driving stuff from previous eras love the excellent engineering, the cars that are built to keep going forever if maintained… And then you’ve got assholes like this ruining the three-pointed for everyone.
Uh, look at the sub name.
I like cars. Love driving. I still think cities should be walkable and have good public transit. In fact I prefer driving outside big cities.
Fuckcars has always been “fuck car dependence” mostly.
You can think cars are problem while acknowledging aspects they are necessary in. Off road on a bike is ludicrously difficult, impossible on trains or busses, and dangerous at times on foot.
Acknowledging it as the problem is a fallacy, acknowledging as a tool is important. You use the right tool for the job, not the most convenient. The issue is that we live in a society that sees vice grips as good enough for the job, and anything as a hammer. Using the right tool is important but laziness is easiest.
I think you’re in the wrong sub, Bub. ROFL
Literally responded to another comment already: just because I like cars doesn’t mean I favour car dependency or car-centric city design. Those are the things this community used to be against, not me driving between towns that will never receive a direct rail connection.
Also subs are a reddit thing, why use that terminology here?
The brand new G class folks
gha, nothing like the nouveau rich right? previous era mercedes like, the 30s and 40s right?
assholes like this ruining the three-pointed for everyone.
yeah breaks my heart poor nazi collaborators getting a bad rap because of these pricks lol
I personally meant 80s, 90s and 00s as my favourite periods, but okay. Let’s go with that logic.
The Deutsche Reichsbahn was used to transport Jewish people to concentration camps, and the current Deutsche Bahn is a successor. Should Germans protest trains then?
Actually, matter of fact, Škoda tech was extensively used by the nazis (both Škoda tanks and guns, in fact), so really I can’t take the train here in Estonia anymore either, I might catch a Škoda by accident..
For distances outside of bicycle reach, that leaves me Uyghur genocide flavored cars, hypercapitalist corporatocracy flavored cars (South Korea consists of like 3 companies, one of them being Hyundai and Kia), Hirohito cars and buses (some bus services here use Isuzu), or nazi cars and buses. Or I guess Mussolini cars and Trump cars, but who wants anything Italian or American anyway.
If you consider historic ties of different companies to dictatorships that ended 80 years ago, you can honestly be left unable to use any mode of transport other than a bicycle, depending on where you live. Don’t get me wrong, I love bicycles, I used to willingly cycle 15 km to gym (and then 15 km back) as a teenager instead of taking the bus. But a lot of the time, bicycles aren’t practical, and nearly every car, train or bus company has been at some point connected to some dictatorship.
30 days seems kinda light for nearly killing somebody and definitely giving them lifelong problems….
Go back and read the article. He’s in jail (not prison) for 30 days pending further investigation.
English is not my native tongue and TIL that jail and prison mean two different things
You really never stop learning!
Please don’t learn from this. Jail and prison are synonymous in most of the English speaking world. The article also doesn’t use the word jail and the English wikipedia article on Prison in Ukraine uses “jail” as a synonym for “prison”. As far as I know “jail” as specifically pre-trial remand is a strictly American thing, and this didn’t happen in America.
Ah, so the title of this post is completely wrong, since he has not been sentenced yet.

From the initial version of the investigation, the driver faced charges under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional grievous bodily harm), but by court decision he was not taken into custody under this article. Soon after, he was detained in Bila Tserkva and another suspicion was announced – leaving a person in danger (Part 3 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code), which carries a penalty of up to eight years in prison.

Why assume his tone is rude? He made two statements that seem factually correct and weren’t rude. Remember that this is the internet and tone doesn’t exist. If you read it as rude maybe that’s a you thing and not a them thing.
go back and read the comment
Someone pointing out you should have read the article for the information isn’t rude. It’s just saying go reread the article because you either missed something or didn’t read it. Because again, tone doesn’t exist on the internet.
go back and read the comment you just wrote
Victim complex much? It’s a bad look imo. to go on the attack just because you did a goof.
kinda?!
that should be treated as atempted murder (period)well the “kinda” was sardonic
“Definitely”
That’s fucked up.
Cyclists should keep a nice, long screw in their bag. When someone parks like an asshole, no need to say anything, just prop the screw up under one of their tires and get on with your day.
It’s reusable and leaves essentially no evidence of tampering. Additionally, if the person cares about safety at all, they’ll stop the car immediately and the tire can be reused, but if they keep driving, it’s ruined.
What’s the name of this object?
Tire stem/valve tool
As someone who was yelled at for “parking in the bike lane” because I had a flat tire and that was the only place I could find to pull over …. Just assuming the worst and jumping right to violence is part of the problem, not the solution
Why park in the bike lane instead of the car lane?
Do bikes with flat tires pull over and park in the car lane?
Deflating tyres is not violent.
Giving someone a flat tire is not even remotely comparable to beating someone unconscious
Just a note here: Having mechanical issues with your vehicle (your private property) does not give you the right to break driving laws. A car with a flat is still capable of driving enough to move out of the way to a space that isn’t impeding traffic and/or putting others in danger.
Granted, blocking a bike lane isn’t likely to put someone in immediate danger, but you are still blocking people from getting past so some amount of anger should be expected. Cyclists have to deal with so much crap being parked/dumped/littered in their bike lanes.
It may put bikers in danger though, because you force them to move out of the bike path into the car lane.
The danger it puts cyclists in is minimal. A bit of paint is not much protection, and cyclists cycle safely in the car lane on many roads.
Making it about danger is hyperbolic.
what part of your story justifies beating an innocent person unconcious?
They yelled at them of course! /S
In response to
Cyclists should keep a nice, long screw in their bag
One violent attack doesn’t justify an arms race.
you are replying to the wrong person
should be 30 months
Take his license and crush his car.
I mean if we are being fair here, crush his legs, sell the car and use the money for charity. Perhaps a charity that helps people with mobility. And builds bike lanes.
This is why i’m glad i’m large and trained in combat. Some drivers will get aggressive with me on my bike but then i get off my bike and they see my size (only 183 cm but colombians are mostly tiny) and they drive away. I really don’t get the attitude of getting aggressive with bikers. We’re way less protected than car people.
Also carrying a collapsible baton might be a good idea for anyone who can’t fight that well. They’re great for hitting an aggressive car or person near you.
Not allowed to carry weapons in the UK. Bike locks are pretty good clubs though. But I have had more problems with dogs chasing me on my bike than from angry drivers. Sure I could stomp a poodle, but wtf do you do with a fighting dog?
I kick any dog that chases me. Not so hard they get injured, just so they stop because i don’t want to have to get rabies shots. I’ve only had it happen a few times though. Aggressive people are more common in my neck of the woods.
And how does that work against a fighting dog? Sure I can see it working on a small dog but not really had a problem with them. At least rabies isn’t a problem here I suppose.
How does it work? Are you asking how to kick or are the dogs chasing you superdogs? Every dog i’ve kicked from my bike has immediately stopped their yapping and chasing. I’m not too worried about dogs anyways since if they get more aggressive i’ll just fight them. Dogs tend to respect you if you are a better fighter than them. So shove your finger up their butthole or your hand down their throat. They will stop. If you’re a small person fighting a dog the same size as you then you might be fucked though.
Ultrasonic whistle maybe?
I carry a stungun myself. I’ve only ever had to use it once and just the test zap was enough to intimidate the jerk who got in my face.
Mercedes driver sentenced
What was the brand name of the bike? /s
They’re implying someone who’s rich and feels entitled.
As someone who drives a Mercedes I’m neither rich nor entitled.
Edit: Who downvotes this lol.
That’s what any rich and entitled person would say.
A former boss of mine who owned his (very large and expensive) house plus three other houses that he rented out, plus 51% stakes in two companies which were both worth at least €10mio each also claimed that he’s “upper middle class” and that the things he feels entitled to are just what regular middle class people are entitled to.
That’s what any rich and entitled person would say.
May I counter that with, what you said is what any up their own arse cunt would say?
Just because youre boss is a knob, doesnt mean that everyone you meet is a liar. What the utter fuck, dude?
There’s literally research on this topic that clearly says that most people count themselves as middle-class, no matter if they are part of the top 0.1% or of the bottom 10%.
This is not made up.
For example: https://www.cnbc.com/2023/11/10/survey-31percent-of-millionaires-say-they-are-part-of-the-middle-class.html
Even among millionaires, only 8% would characterize themselves as wealthy these days.
Roughly 60% of investors with $1 million or more of investable assets said they are more likely upper middle class, according to a recent Ameriprise Financial survey of more than 3,000 adults.
Of those making more than $175,000 a year, or roughly the top 10% of tax filers, one-quarter said they were either “very poor,” “poor” or “getting by but things are tight.”
Even a share of those making more than $500,000 and $1,000,000 said the same.
Dude, owning a fucking merc doesnt make you middle class. Youre a fucking spoon eating cunt, looking to shit on anyone who says something you dont like. Even if it means making things up about them. “Mercedes driver” doesnt tell you anything about a person, other than the fact they drive a Mercedes.
Kinda like saying you ride a bike, doesnt automatically make some a prick who cycles in the middle of the road causing traffic issues everywhere they go.
I like to life by the following rule:
Anybody that says all X are Y, then that persons probably biased or an idiot.
… you do understand that your rule includes anyone who lives by that rule?
You just called yourself a biased idiot.
Jesus fucking christ, you cant even read either.
You “is”
Them “probably”
See the difference? Or shall we break out the special crayons?
Ok, so a “probably” fixes everything for you?
Then you are probably a small-ego little-dick biased idiot who thinks that pedantry is a virtue and who thinks that putting “probably” before a sentance makes him a saint.
Happy now?
Yeah, what a strange detail for a headline
We live in a very car-centric culture, everything is a reminder.
Brand is a useless detail.
For nerds a detailed model wound be needed.
And for those saying ‘that means rich’ -again more model info of the carthe info if there person is rich is needed.
A detail from the OPs article like:According to the media, notably “Ukrainska Pravda”, the attacker – a 44-year-old Oleksandr Khilyk – may also figure in a case of embezzlement of 25 million hryvnias for the procurement of winter uniforms for the Kyiv Territorial Defense.
There is a full vid too (some news vid):
What about the video makes you think he is not rich?
Sorry, there seems to be some confusion & I prob wasn’t clear - I never said he wasn’t rich, the whole first part is a comment on the stupid article headline, the subject I was replying to (if anything, that it wasn’t clear from the headline that he was rich).
They had his ID, they could have just said ‘rich guy’ instead of driver.
This makes more sense, now I understand what you mean. I think they use “mercedes driver”, because it paints a picture. “Mercedes driver” implies not only “rich”, but also “entitled”, “anger management issues” and “difficulty with following road laws”.
And at the same time it allows the reader (who might share some of these characteristics) to still claim moral superiority over that guy (“At least I don’t drive a Mercedes”).
It is, in fact, a very clever headline that does quite a lot with very little.
It does so using stereotypes and prejudices, and that might totally be seen as despicable. But I wouldn’t call it stupid.
(In fact, labelling him as a “rich driver” does quite a similar thing. His wealth itself doesn’t really matter for the story, unless you want to evoke the connotations of “entitled”, “thinks he is above the law” and “gets away with doing things poor people could not get away with”, while allowing people who share some of these characteristics to still claim moral superiority (“I’m not a rich asshole like that guy”).)
The video you linked had a clip of the assailant with what looks like a mansion and several luxuries from a previous video. It definitely seems like this is a rich person.
