Discord is "experimenting" with an age authentication vendor whose major investors include Thiel's Founders Fund.

Calling it now, the cringe compilations back in the day were training grounds for the working class to police non-conformists within their own ranks.

Yeah I have a baaaad feeling about this “collecting biometric data” stuff. Mostly because Australia was the first to start doing this stuff with banning kids from social media, and Australia seems to be like, the hegemony’s testing ground for stuff like this.

Similar to the Ring cameras using “finding lost pets” as a selling point for their mass surveillance, I don’t believe for a second that this is about protecting kids.

the “finding lost pets” shit is that type of manipulative evil you can only find in a capitalist dystopia. “sadly you all have some sort of rights so we can’t technically fully just spy on you. but if we tell you that we’ll find your kid’s lost puppy then you’ll let us spy on you of your own free will”

thank god that ad was so creepy it went over the line and got the normies questioning

I was watching the Superbowl Big Game muted because I was tuned in to Hasan-Felix-Noah-Pablo-bowl like a real sicko, but I saw that ad in the background and immediately clocked how fucked up it was. I’m genuinely encouraged that this seems to have been the mainstream reaction.

The reaction is better than you think.

i heard that this harvesting of biometric data / age verification is a huge moneymaker, so the information is desirable enough for their uses to pay lots of money for.

    Move to Stoat or Matrix.

And please don’t have discord installed on your devices. It’s quite literally Spyware.

At the very least, use a client like Vesktop (idk any mobile clients, half of them are dead or don’t work). They remove a lot of telemetry. So you’re giving away a lot less if you don’t type easily traceable stuff and it can no longer track your activity outside the Discord window.

    Best thing I did today…

I woke up, grabbed my phone, read this thread, removed all of my Discord contacts and groups, and deleted my Discord account of 7 years.

    Feels so good! stalin-feels-good
