You still can’t control the country because that’s not how that works with that gigantic population. Did the US control Afghanistan or even really Iraq? No. You can send in a lot of troops and make weird alliances and change local power structures in unpredictable ways, of course. But that’s different from control.
Then chicken out 20 years later and have the power vacuum immediately refilled by the people you were combating. Oh, and thanks for the millions of dollars worth of assets you leave behind.
There were ~400.000 German soldiers in nazi occupied Norway in 1945, a country with then a little less than 3 million people. Arguably even that didn’t really control the country.
I think it would be more than that. Iran is 4 times the size of Iraq with who knows how long their tunnel systems are. Population is also about 3-4 times larger than Iraq.
If they try to control Iran it will turn into second Vietnam/Afghanistan. Tens of thousands of dead US soldiers.
Probably much more than that with the advent of combat drones being super cheap and disposable now.
The US just raised recruitment age from 35 to 42.
Iran is talking about 1 millions volunteers so far. During Iraq Iran war there was 3 millions volunteers
Trump just wants to do some special forces type operations.

I mean, there’s been what? 4 successful conquests of Persia in the last 3000 years? most recently a joint a British Soviet sneak attack during WW2. But I’m sure that the empire that failed in in prior two occupations of Iran’s weaker neighbors will be fine.
I don’t think he wants the whole country. Probably just control of Kharg.
But you can’t safely occupy Kharg without controlling the mainland. Iran is hitting targets much farther away than Kharg.
I hope they wipe out the thousands, I want so many honor flights coming in that Trump has to live on the tarmac where he can’t fuck anything else up.
The US doesn’t want to. a few people do and they temporarly have power but most don’t care much so long as ’ our boys’ are okay
