This is incredibly cool science that I desperately wish was being discovered and advanced after the downfall of capitalism and imperialism.

As it is, it’s gonna result in really useful and novel cures for rich westerners and possibly targeted plagues for the rest of us.

They’re phages, they being designed to infect bacteria. They tested them on e.coli. Hopefully could be used on antibiotic resistant bacteria. It’s in the linked article.

You think they’re only doing this and not working on a new way to design super viruses to eradicate their enemies? Are you aware of all the terrible shit American three letter agencies have been doing behind the scenes for the last century?

        Fucking give me a break.

The United States of America is the only country that is wrong for breakthroughs in scientific research?

          That reeks of chauvinism.

So you are saying it is a good thing when another country makes breakthroughs in scientific research?

That comment you copy pasted in the thread a couple of times doesn’t seem to hold the same sentiment.

Or, are you saying its only bad when USA does it? If so, that’s Chauvinism. Did you know that’s a bannable offense on Lemmy.ml?

I’m saying that America absolutely cannot be trusted with any of their scientific breakthroughs, because inevitably they will be used to extract more wealth from the working class, or for their bloodthirsty military industrial complex. And because of the nature of their three letter agencies, they’ll do it in secret, and then half a century later, admit it was true and that they’re weally sowwy.

If you think this will be used only for the good of humanity, you’re either very gullible or just a young person.

Is it chauvinism to judge a country on its long history of bio and chemical terrorism/warfare rather than taking them at their word that they’re not going to do it this time?

No hes right, if we disregard the entire 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, I’m a chauvinist for not trusting the American government and should be immediately banned… 🙄

Its Chauvinism to imply that only the USA uses scientific breakthroughs for some evil agenda (in this case, saying that they are going to use this to “make viruses to destroy their enemies”).

If I had said that about China, that would also be Chauvinist.

                  Would it not?

Scientific breakthroughs in research and development help all of humanity.

The United States, Russia (and before in Soviet Union), China, France, United Kingdom, India, Pakistan and North Korea.

I’m assuming you meant actually used them or the first to develop them and yes USA is the only one that did that and it is fucked up that they did that you won’t see me disagreeing with you there.

              My point still stands

It’s fascist to try and find phages that destroy deadly bacteria that kills people? (Like the article you shared says)

        Huh. TIL.

Not reading the article you shared is wild.
