As long as he doesn’t change his stance on the genocide in Gaza, it shouldn’t significantly hurt his chances. This is for the old liberals afraid to vote for a ‘radical’ candidate.

There have been a ton of mailers and TV ads making Abdul out to be scary and radical. The Ex-Vice President giving him her endorcement softens those attack ads.

In so many words I’m saying your premise is fundamentally flawed and without merit.

All the Media begging him to condemn Hasan Piker. No one in the media begging him to condemn a perpetrator of genocide.

I heard Hasan might have used a shock collar on his 100 lb dog though. I guess thats more important.

Seriously though. It gives me a bad fucking taste in my mouth. Like, you are literally sitting here as a candidate because of the support of pro Palestine advocates doing a shit ton of ground work. It’s kind of a fucking slap in the face to bring in a person that literally lost the election because she wouldn’t even acknowledge anything negative towards Israel. We were looking for a crumb of good doubt. And then she gave us this. Come on mate.

This literally feels like the Dems trying to defeat him.

Because two years ago, she was the frontwoman of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

When Biden flamed out, there was an opportunity to chart a clear course away from the imbecilic positions and sound bytes of the DNC’s establishment and political consultant class. Instead, she toed the line, and lost. Not to mention, voter turnout tanked because she was just offering more of the same, instead of actually making any attempt to iterate and improve on any of Biden’s positions.

Part of her campaign was getting buddy buddy with Liz fucking Cheney the the old Dem strategy of trying to appeal to Republicans instead of trying to appeal to progressives. Also she was a prosecutor and leaned into tough on crime bullshit.

She is a younger version of the same old party membership that needs to go away and let the progressives take the lead.

Conservatives called “neo-liberals” are in control of our Democratic Party. She is a neo-liberal who would not condemn genocide when she was running for president.

The normal people want a progressive candidate, not a neo-liberal. Conservatives are pathological liars and we are tired of them being the only two choices.

It’s been 8 hours and you’ve already got a lot of replies. I wanted to offer something that isn’t rooted in symbolism and political identity but just disregard if you feel like it’s already clear:

Kamala’s the latest in a procession of DNC leaders who already had jobs in presidents cabinets. That gives them experience and sounds great until you look at who those presidents were. Then you realize that for the last decade we’ve just been running the same guy spiritually since Obama left office and the US has no hope of ever growing beyond bombing brown people and pardoning pedophiles.

Add on that Harris’ predecessor was segregation-era architect of inequality and overpolicing in his career, and that she basically replicated his carceral strategies in her home state before ever working with him. It starts to be obvious that this procession of leadership would never be trusted with presidential power if they weren’t the only alternative to TurboHittler. It’s manipulative.

I don’t “hate” her she just doesn’t do much for me or represent my values as a voter. My biggest qualm is “she’s a cop” she was the attorney general and described herself as the “top cop” of California. She’s deeply entrenched in a very broken system and it does not serve her or those aligned with her to change that system. Those who understand the system is broken and it “going back to normal” as in pre-Trump, doesn’t actually fix said system it just rewinds it a bit. I will vote for Harris every day of the week over a Republican presidential candidate don’t get me wrong, but I don’t like it, I do understand the value of choosing the lesser evil and the importance of fighting back against accelerationism. I’m sure plenty of people hate her, as far as who she is as a person I’m ambivalent it’s just her politics are more of the status quo and that’s not my politics.

She would have started if given the chance to. Only difference would be actually asking congress to declare war in Iran after joining Israel on the first strikes

            https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/10/8/kamala-harris-says-iran-is-greatest-adversary-of-us

Harris was asked whether she would use military force to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, but she said she would not discuss hypotheticals.

The vice president has repeatedly pledged to continue to arm Israel, citing in part what she calls the threat of Iran, despite growing anger over well-documented Israeli abuses in Gaza and Lebanon.

This is total B.S. Kamala Harris gave the standard response to those questions that any American politician gives, i.e. “Say something that doesn’t make you look weak but also doesn’t committ.” That’s why it says “but she said she would not discuss hypotheticals.” She gave a non-comittal answer which her political opposition could not use against her. In real life Biden and Harris were committed to the same route that Obama took, which was to actually make a non-nuclear proliferation deal with Iran.

Did she support Israel? Yes. But to claim she would’ve started this same war with Iran is simply rediculous.

Why do you think it’s such a far fetched idea that she would’ve started or participated in a war in Iran? She wanted to have “the strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world.” For what? Our own protection? You don’t become the most lethal fighting force in the world by reacting, you accomplish it through action. And as others have already pointed out, she’s beholden to Israel and if they would’ve told her they were going to to strike, and that they expected her to do the same, she would have in a heartbeat because then American gets to fight a war it founds it’s way into through an ally rather than us blatantly attacking them.

Sorry this war didn’t come with bombs wrapped in a rainbow flag and instead just exposed the bombs openly themselves. But to look at even what the Biden admin said and did in the wake of Trump 1.0 (things fundamentally will not change or something to that effect that Biden said in 2020.) you’d have to be crazy to think a Democrat is going to come in and save you. Especially one that can’t say genocide in Palestine is happening and it is bad.

                Edit: spelling

Why do you think it’s such a far fetched idea that she would’ve started or participated in a war in Iran?

Probably because she’s not an idiot and would actually listen to the generals, and also because she can’t be blackmailed for being a pedophile.

She wanted to have “the strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world.”

This is, once again, the standard response for any American politician running for president - say something that’s non-commital that also doesn’t make you look weak, so it can’t be misused by your political opposition. It is essentially a non-answer. If you look back every presidential candidate has said something similar, except for Trump (as trump usually just admits he wants to drop bombs on people.)

And as others have already pointed out, she’s beholden to Israel and if they would’ve told her they were going to to strike, and that they expected her to do the same, she would have in a heartbeat because then American gets to fight a war it founds it’s way into through an ally rather than us blatantly attacking them.

This is an incredibly simplistic and over reductive view of the situation. The reason why they supported Israel’s genocide (among other reasons too extensive to get into here) was because after Oct. 7th the polling was in support of Israel, and it only turned against Israel after they started the genocide. Now you may aruge that the left and progressives were always against the Palestinian genocide, and you’d be correct. But what you’re not getting is that the Democratic Party does not care about it’s left/progressive wing, because those people are not a consistent voting block. Up until rather recently the majority of Americans were in favor of supporting Israel, and they reacted accordingly, because that’s what politicians do.

I don’t see how me stating the fact that Kamala would not have invaded Iran as equivalent to “a Democrat is going to come in and save me.” How about you blame politicans for the things they actually did, and not the shit they didn’t do or you think they’ll do. You’re literally blaming them for starting a war when in real life democrats have a record of ending wars, not starting them.

Nobody says you have to support democrats, but don’t feed me this crap that somehow they’d be just as bad as republicans because I don’t have time for no bullshit.

It’s not bs when combined with her acceptance speech as the democratic presidential candidate she proudly proclaimed she’d improve the military, which yes is unfortunately standard for American politicians, by making the most lethal in the world.

started this same war with Iran is simply rediculous.

She would have. You appreciate the EPA is dismissing pollution controls? Public lands being sold and destroyed? ANWAR drilling? Wind and solar being shut down? This one’s so simple, how can anyone miss it.

or that she would implement universal healthcare.

What, by Executive Order? Yeah that wasn’t the offer (though that is the goal). Hundreds of thousands thrown off Medicare, insurance payments skyrocketing, measles outbreaks, “we should all eat more meat”? Yeah she would have been much, much better.

Or that she would’ve handled immigration.

You prefer the fascist paramilitary to - NOT the fascist paramilitary? Because that was what we would have had. NOT that. And hopefully some improvement. “Handled” is pointlessly vague though, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I swear neoliberals love to blame the left for their own shortcomings with nothing but straw man arguments and fallacies.

I’m saying voting for Harris would have been much better than whatever the fuck it was the Lemmyleft was trumpeting. Afaik it was either not voting or voting for a candidate no one can even remember two years later.

Blah blah blah leftists bad and it’s our fault Trump was elected. Get some better talking points. Or better yet, if leftists are so important to democrats winning, maybe implement leftists policies and move towards the left then? But we all know it’s not that, the neolibs just want someone to blame for running a cop as presidential candidate and calling it PrOgReSsIvE.

Whatever, you got the predisent you wanted. Our leftier-than-thous can try and fix it in the midterms or continue to work against it and watch another two years of abject disaster go by. Again.

Running a cop, ffs. As if you’re completely unaware what we have now.

As someone not inside the US, I would rather an incompetent steward of empire rather than a competent one. You think Harris’ promise of the most lethal military in the world was empty? Your government is uniparty when it comes to foreign policy, the genocide in Gaza is a testament to that.

Michigan progressive+ here. Not particularly. I read this as a shallow attempt by El-Sayed to use her reach to push his message and a doomed attempt by Harris to use El-Sayed to launder her reputation with the left. El-Sayed likely sees that he will come out ahead, but its not a moment to he proud of. Mostly a waste of time instead of campaigning with Donovan McKinney, save for the fact multiple days worth of articles are being posted about the one event I guess…
