Brave is my backup for Firefox. I simply never signed up for bat and removed the icon from the bar.
I’m sure they’re collecting and will sell my information to anybody that will pay, But that information will be less reaching than Microsoft or Google, their fingerprinting against other sites is very good so it’s probably limiting my exposure more Even though they’re also a broker. How I keep them around for the ad blocking alone, they actually have a team of paid developers to keep YouTube and browser ads at bay, they’re also doing the ad blocking in the core application instead of the plugins so it’s not something that can be easily bypassed.
Every single post about ad blockers will be someone talking about how “good” Brave is. Drives me crazy.
It is fairly popular these days which gives me hope. The fact that people are willing to give up Chrome is a very good sign.
Honestly the custom Firefox browsers are the best option but they are less well known and harder to use and understand. The great part about Brave is that it just works.

i tried running Firefox on my 2018 budget phone and every https handshake takes 5 awkward seconds and it’s more like 0.5 seconds on brave. it’s open source, built in dark mode, and runs well for me. it’s not even a gut feeling thing, on Android this is objectively beating the competition within the privacy conscious space.
i believe COVID is as natural and genuine as the historically evident spanish flu - but even if someone exists who is too stupid to get it, I’m happily enjoying the fact that he has nothing to do with me

It really isn’t that bad. I’m say this why comparing it to all the telemetry and ads in Firefox. Sure you can turn that stuff off but it takes effort to harden Firefox.
